TEAM TALKS
FOR ENGLISH 201 WITH PROFESSOR FLOREN

Why team talks and why these team talks?  (1) To give you practice in communicating ideas orally and therefore prepare you and your classmates for writing better papers related to the topics of the team talks. (2) To enhance and enliven your learning experience.  (3) To review important concepts from the textbook and to add to your knowledge base. (4) To prepare you and your classmates for quizzes and assignments that assess the extent and quality of your learning.  (5) To help you develop leadership and teamwork skills critical to success in college, in the workplace, and in life. (6) To give you opportunities to get better acquainted with your classmates, to develop study groups, and to make friends.

TEAM TALK #1 (30 points)-Informal: Due Weeks 9 and 10. Explain how elements of poetry are used in a song and selected poems from Barnet and Tidepools—on the topic of PEACE.  Participate fully as member of audience for all other team talks, and provide feedback and responses to the other teams' presentations. Time estimate: 5 hours.
 

TEAM TALK #2 (70 points)-Formal:  Due Weeks 14 and 15. Explain how elements of fiction are used in selected stories from Barnet and Tidepools, and explore film adaptation of stories—on the topic of PEACE.   Participate fully as member of audience for all other team talks, and provide feedback and responses to the other teams' presentations.  Submit a formal report on your presentation. Time estimate: 15 hours.
 

Note:  You will also have other opportunitiessuch as roundtable discussions and other more informal in-class activitiesto express yourself, to work with your classmates, and to present your work orally.
