A WORK-IN-PROGRESS

INTRODUCTION | LOCATE by FILM TITLE | LOCATE by CITY
| CAVEAT | ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Most of the films assigned for the course are on reserve at the MiraCosta College Library (if the situation changes, I'll make adjustments in your assignment).  You may check out any of these films from the MiraCosta College Library, either for in-library use ( you may screen them in the library at any time the library is open, and a VHS and monitor are available), or for an overnight.  Call the library in advance to be sure the film is at the desk and not checked out already (760-757-2121, 760-944-4449, or 888-201-8480: x-6715 or x-7850).

You are welcome to attend the Oceanside campus screenings on Tuesday afternoons; please call in advance. I will be teaching an onground section of Film 101, and will be screening many of the films on the CyberCinema list in my Tuesday 1-4 p.m. section on the Oceanside Campus (room OC3516).  If you have trouble finding one of the older films, and you are in town and available, you might want to join us in a Tuesday afternoon group screening.  I'd appreciate your calling first, since the Tuesday afternoon class is full, and you may have to bring your own chair or pillow--or sit on the counter during the screening.  (Call by the Friday before to find out titles of films to be screened or clipped on the next Tuesday: 760-757-2121, x-6221.  Check out our Film101-Onground Homepage).  Sometimes, I'll host a special early Tuesday evening screening and discussion of assigned films or other films that students are interested in discussing for enrichment or extra credit; you're always welcome to join us--just email me to find out what's playing (4-6:30 p.m. at OC3516).

To rent or purchase films from an online source, look at these Websites:

Other video locations (libraries and video merchants primarily in the North San Diego County area of California) are listed under the film titles below.  Many local libraries and video merchants carry the films assigned in CyberCinema; all libraries require a library card (this process may take a few days, so plan accordingly), and a few merchants require memberships. Please always return films promptly so others may borrow them, and please use the class discussion list to e-mail information about where films can be rented or borrowed. top

LOCATOR SORT BY FILM TITLEClick on the title of the film, and then click on the city; use the key associated with the name of the library or video merchant to get details about where to go to get your film--address, phone, pricing, etc. An asterisk (*) means that the film is in storage and requires at least one day advance notice for rental (sometimes the film is located at another library, and it may take a week to get the item you want).  Remember that most of these films are on reserve in the MiraCosta College Library, available for overnight check-out or in-library use. I encourage group screenings whenever possible. Please help us develop our Video Locator by sending new information or correcting errors.

CAVEAT: The Video Locator list is not exhaustive.   It is not a complete survey of all local video stores and libraries, nor will it help students who do not live in or near North San Diego County.   But it's a start, anyway.   Remember also that video merchants and librarians change their inventories or prices (prices on this Website do not include tax) without notifying me (one merchant is going out of business as I write this, so I am erasing that information from this page). Please use this Video Locator as a guide, but use the telephone to double-check before traveling to a store or library to get your video.   And be sure to check for the latest version of this page.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:   Finally, a special note of appreciation to Vena Green and to Enrica Macklin, who helped to build the original Video Locator page as an Honors project for Film 101 CyberCinema during the spring semester of 1998 (Ms. Macklin's PowerPoint Presentation on video locations is available for review at honors seminars)--and to Meghan Anderson and María Ramos, who updated the information as an Honors Project during the spring 1999 semester.   Thanks to the many students in both the online and onground classes for keeping me posted on new locations, changes in holdings, and other facts that help me keep this page accurate. top
