Important Warning on
Student Financial Aid Web Sites
"What's in a name? When it comes to a college financial
aid web site, similar names are causing a lot of confusion," according
to NBC 10 (Philadelphia, PA).
The report addresses the confusion that families may face should they mistakenly
enter the Web address FAFSA.com (a for-profit site) rather
than ED's FAFSA.ed.gov.
The U.S. Government has a number of web sites that deal
with Financial Aid for Students. There are also Web
sites that "pretend" to
be U.S. Government sponsored web sites. These non government
College Financial Aid web sites typically charge for services.
For more information visit National
Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and also check
out the section on this web site scholarship scams.

Important Advice on
Student Loans
All
student loans are guaranteed by the U.S. Government. If
for any reason you fail to repay your student loans it is
the U.S. Government that becomes the collection agency.
If you default on a student loan it permanently damages
your credit rating. Also, defaulting on a student loan will
keep you from getting any future student loans, affects
your schools rating, as well as the schools ability to offer
loans to your fellow students in the future.
Obtaining
a student loan is a very serious long term commitment, and
not to be taken lightly. MiraCosta College currently has
a recommended Student loan indebtedness maximum of $9675.
We total all loan indebtedness from all educational institutions.

Financial aid includes a variety of federal
and state programs designed to provide students access to an education.
Financial aid is not intended to provide total support but to bridge
the gap between educational costs and available resources. Programs
available at MiraCosta College include the Federal Pell Grant, Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work Study,
Federal Stafford Loan, and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan. State
programs include the Extended Opportunity Program and Services,
the Board of Governors Waiver which assists with registration fees,
and Cal Grant B and C.
