About Karen Kenyon

Karen Kenyon is a writer and teacher who lives near La Jolla, California. She believes in the connection between writing and art, and between writing and music. Her work (poetry, essays, interviews, travel articles, profiles) appears regularly in The Christian Science Monitor, British Heritage, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, San Diego Magazine, and other publications. Her published books are Sunshower (a memoir about the journey she and her son took through the grief of her young husband’s death), published in 1981 by Richard Marek, through G. P. Putnam’s Sons, New York, and The Bronte Family/Passionate Literary Geniuses (a Young Adult biography of the talented Brontë family -- Charlotte, Emily, Anne), published in 2003 by Lerner Publishing Group, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Her works in progress include Writing by Heart / Beyond the Journal. The book is an invitation to readers to write about their lives. She uses personal narrative, memoir, and poetry by various writers for inspiration. Her other work in progress is a Young Adult biography of Charles Dickens.

Karen teaches writing in the San Diego area at MiraCosta College, and at the University of California, San Diego Extension, and through the Osher program at San Diego State University. She also runs private workshops, as well as workshops in libraries. She invites writing assignments and invitations to speak or do workshops.
