When contacting the instructor through email,
please identify the purpose of your email in the SUBJECT line along with the
course and your name. Here is an example
of how you should key the subject:
QUESTION BOT 111 Susan Smith. The
instructor will respond within 48 hours.
To
expedite responses to questions, key the word QUESTION in the subject line of the
email, and you will receive a response within 48 hours.
Getting
Started:
Follow these steps to complete EACH lesson:
ü Read the
lesson material before starting to be sure you understand the skills being
emphasized in the lesson.
ü Complete the
practice exercises as listed on the assignment sheet. The Office
Guide reference materials are in a folder on the Blackboard site
ü If working in
the BOT Model Office, 4803B OC, be sure to sit at a computer with a
transcription machine. The lab instructor will give you a demonstration on the
use of the transcription machine.
ü
If
working online, all the transcription files are in a folder on the Blackboard
site. You will use the keyboard controls
to start and stop the audio files.
ü Download
the appropriate letterhead for the
lesson you are transcribing from the Blackboard folder.
ü Listen
carefully to the dictation and then type.
Do not try to listen, type, and edit at the same time. Continue typing even if it does not make
sense to you at the moment. When you
have completed the entire dictation, it will make sense and editing is much
faster than spending time trying to decipher a word while transcribing.
ü Save your assignments and transcription as
identified in the syllabus: Assignment
1, Lesson 1 Document 1, for each lesson.
ü Proofread and
use spellcheck to correct the very obvious errors.
ü
Correct
any errors. Save a final copy. Do not
print.
Grading:
Final
grade will be based on the completion of all six (6) transcription assignments,
and the final transcription test.
Assignments and tests will be graded using the following criteria:
0-4 errors = Mailable;
4+ errors = Unmailable.
Major errors such as spelling and format
errors make a document Unmailable.
Each
assignment has a point value on the assignment sheet.
Total
Points: 100-125 = A; 90-99 = B; 80-89=C;
70-79 =D; below 70 = F.
Submitting
Assignments:
There are 12 assignments in this course.
Assignments to be submitted: 1,
2, 3, exercises from six dictation lessons, career report, post test, and final
project.
This
is a self-paced e-flex course that
allows you to work in the BOT Model Office, 4803B OC, or online. Students are responsible for completing and
submitting all assignments as listed in the course syllabus. Assignments reviewed and graded by your
instructor in the BOT Model Office will get immediate feedback and
grading. Weekly assignments submitted
through email will be reviewed and graded within five (5) days. All assignments
submitted through email must be identified in the subject line with your last name and the assignment name
or number as directed in the syllabus, for example: Striebel Project 1.
The
Blackboard site contains data files, all assignments, announcements, lectures,
special instructions or notes for assignments, discussion questions, and
assignment grades.
Even
though this is a self-paced course and students can select a flexible schedule
for completing assignments, students must show steady progress through the
semester by viewing the program orientation, submitting the student contact
form, submitting weekly assignments, and maintaining contact with the
instructor. Students will be dropped for
lack of successful progress. A suggested
timeline for completing assignments is given in the syllabus. Students are encouraged to follow the
timeline or work ahead as a guide to successful completion of the course.
