For almost eight years Leon was the Director of Community Services and Business Development for MiraCosta College before retiring in November, 2006. His department was primarily responsible for providing fee-based classes to the community on a wide variety of topics including, computer classes, art classes, business classes and many more. Leon’s department was also responsible for providing training to businesses throughout the MiraCosta College District. During his time with Community Services, Leon also served as a Business Administration instructor and taught Business 131. Before his employment at MiraCosta College, Leon also worked for about ten years at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California. Although he is officially retired, Leon continues to work on a part-time basis for MiraCosta as the Noncredit Coordinator at our Community Learning Center on Mission Avenue.

Before entering the world of academia, Leon had an extensive career of almost thirty years in the private sector. He worked for a variety of companies, had his own consulting business, and provided supervisory and managerial training to an extraordinary list of clients throughout the U.S. A partial list of his clients includes:

G.E. Plastics                                                     U.S. Forest Service

G.E. Aircraft Engines                                        Showboat Hotel and Casino

General Foods                                                  Sun-Maid Raisin

Del Mar Fairgrounds                                        Taylor Made Golf

Callaway Golf                                                   Merced County Sheriff’s Dept.

Leon enjoys working with students. He is an avid reader and, as a hobby, he serves as a guest “expert horse racing handicapper” at Del Mar Surfside Race Place.
