Hi and welcome to my home page. I'd like to tell you a little bit
about myself. I was hired as a full-time Chemistry Professor by
MiraCosta College in August of 1991. Prior to my employment at MCC,
I worked for three years in the computer industry as a Quality Assurance
Senior Engineer at Unisys Corporation. While at Unisys, I was responsible
for all incoming raw materials used to manufacture microcircuits.
I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of California,
San Diego, in Chemistry with a specialization in Earth Sciences
in 1984. Prior to transferring to UCSD, I attended Monterey Peninsula
College where my passion for chemistry was discovered. At the same
time running became a large part of my life. I received a Master
of Arts degree in Chemistry in 1988, from San Diego State University.
While working on my Master's degree, I researched the pyrolytic
decomposition of a classification of compounds known as organosilanes
while at SDSU.
Early in my academic career I wanted to be a track and field coach.
For this I was required to take an introductory chemistry class,
and the rest is history. I fell in love with chemistry because of
its ability to explain so much of the natural world we live in.
Chemicals exploding with colors, the bonding in materials, why neutron
stars are so dense; virtually everything can be described by its
chemical properties and behavior. I hope that you will become as
excited about chemistry while learning in my class.
Since being employed at MiraCosta I have taught the following classes:
Chem100, Chem102, Chem108, Chem110, Chem111 and PHSN101.
