Art 208: Advanced Photography

About This Class

This course offers students who have successfully completed Beginning Photography (ART-207, or the equivalent) the opportunity to continue developing a deeper understanding of the principles of photography through creative projects that stimulate and inspire you. Instruction will include advanced techniques in camera operations, calculating exposures, lighting, and darkroom techniques.

Slide lectures will introduce picture-making styles of both historical and contemporary photographers. Special darkroom techniques such as Sabattier (commonly referred to as Solarization), photomontage (compositing), toning, and hand-coloring are offered on intermediate and advanced levels.

Students will visit current photographic exhibitions in the area. A portfolio will be produced as the final project of this course. ART 208 may be taken 3 times.
