ART 253: Applied Digital Photography

MiraCosta College
Digital Photography - Art 253 -- Spring 2010

About this Class:
Prerequisite: 251 Digital Photography

This course builds upon skills learned in the prerequisite course, Art 251. Students will have opportunity to practice artificial lighting techniques as well as work with available light on various projects. There will be both collaborative work and individual assignments. Field trips will be arranged and photographic outings will supplement the in-class hours.

We will use a private Flickr.com group called 253_S10 for sharing some of your photos and for online class discussions. You will receive an invitational email to this group at the start of the semester. You will be required to post one photograph per week, view and comment on other student work weekly. See Photo Explorations page for more information . Three (3) of the Explorations will be turned in on Blackboard for instructor evaluations.

In conjunction with textbook readings from Light, Science and Magic, there will be sseveral lighting set-ups executed collaboratively in the lighting studio. See the calendar for more details.

The course culminates with the creation and production of a professional portfolio of photographs. This final project may be a traditional print portfolio or in electronic form such as a web site.

This course is required for the Digital Photography Certificate of Achievement
