Reducing Pixel Dimensions in Adobe Photoshop CS3

These directions are specifically for resizing in Photoshop and a file in landscape mode.
You can modify these steps for your specific use.

Start - open Adobe Bridge

Select file (click on it once to highlight.) Look for the metadata tab.

Examine metadata - in this case the file is a .jpg and in landscape format and measures 3456 x 2304 pixels.

Next, while you are STILL in Bridge you will open the file into Adobe Photoshop CS4.
From the top Bridge menu:
File> Open with > Adobe Photoshop CS3 or Command (control on PC) O (as in the letter "O")

In Adobe Photoshop:

Top menu >Image > Image size > to bring up the following dialog box.
(The illustrations below are for my specific image. Yours may vary in pixel size.)

Next step: Uncheck the Resample Image box at the bottom and change the Resolution to 72 pixels / inch.

  1. Recheck the Resample Image box at the bottom and choose "Bicubic Sharper," from the drop-down menu.
  2. Now, at the top, change the Pixel Width to 1000 pixels.
  3. Click OK.

This file has now been reduced in pixel dimensions and a resolution common for viewing on a monitor or the web.
