Peter Avery

I am a native of London and grew up in England, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Before joining MiraCosta, I worked as a statistician for the British government and then taught for 12 years on the math faculty at Keele University.

I am fascinated by the power of math, which provides a framework for solving quantitative problems. I believe the key to success in math is understanding the big picture and seeing the connections between different strands. I'm drawn to those areas of math which are interdisciplinary, such as statistics, operations research, and theoretical computer science.

When not thinking and talking about math, I enjoy the great outdoors, racquet sports, reading, and traveling with my family.
