ACCT 101 Class

Robert Chamberlain received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis, in Agricultural Economics/Business Management and earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from San Diego State University.  Robert is a CPA and first began teaching and working in accounting about 30 years ago, initially working in the San Diego office of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) before opening his own accounting practice.  His clients were quite varied, ranging from restaurants to contractors to commercial fishermen, as well as retailers and professionals in different fields.  In addition to accounting, Robert has been very involved in the real estate industry, including developing and managing residential and commercial properties in California and Colorado, and has owned his own business for more than 20 years.

IMPORTANT NOTE on CLOSED Classes: All the online classes and many of the on-campus classes close quickly. You should register ASAP if you are interested in any class. If you change your mind, please drop the class immediately so others can enroll. If the class is closed, consider the Wait List procedures; be aware of the rules and the limitations. Otherwise, consider these options: 1) register for another section if available; 2) register for another class; 3) consider registering in a future semester; 4) show up for the first day of an on-campus class and discuss with the instructor; or 5) forget about it and move on. The instructor will not intervene with the wait list procedure.

Please be aware that, once a class reaches maximum enrollment and “closes,” on or after the first day of the semester, even if “available” spaces appear on SURF due to drops, it is within the instructor's complete discretion on whether to add more students at that time. Drops after the first day are normal attrition and are factored in when setting the maximum enrollment. The class has started and important assignments and subject matter have already been covered. Teaching Philosophy/Style and Class Management/Activities

Student participation is essential to the learning environment and to make a class enjoyable.  I want to hear from the students so I encourage questions but I also try to get students to answer each other’s questions because I believe trying to explain a concept to another student is often the best way to think through and learn that concept yourself.  I like to have frequent in-class assignments that students sometimes work on individually and other times complete in groups.  I want everyone to succeed and enjoy my classes but I also expect students to put in the work required to be a success.  Therefore, I expect students to have read the material before we discuss it in class to better understand and be able to participate in the discussions and to complete all assignments to the best of their abilities.
