Troubleshooting Before Calling Help Desk

Resetting passwords may not successfully occur because of a few simple settings within your browser.  Here are some basic steps to perform on your own, which will most likely address your issues.

For MAC users

  1. Safari is NOT recommended to be used for accessing MiraCosta's networked resources
    It is recommended that any of the other common browsers be used when resetting your browser as well as when using the college's networked resources: Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
  2. Enable Pop-ups
    Ensure that pop-ups are enabled -- you want pop-ups to occur.
  3. Adjust your browser's settings
    Is your browser is saving the history of pages visited, passwords used, and auto-fill forms?  You will likely encounter problems with changing your password.  Clear the cached files, stop the auto-fill features, and restart the browser so these changes will take effect.
  4. Is your password valid?
    If your password does not meet the Password Requirements criteria listed below, it will not work.
  5. Login to the Password Management System  https://pw.miracosta.edu/Staff
    Click the link above and reset your password.
  6. After successfully changing your password
    Test your new password by logging into any networked resource:  Outlook Web Access, SURF, Blackboard.

For Windows/PC users

  1. Any current browser is suitable for resetting your password
    Recommended browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome.
  2. Enable Pop-ups
    Ensure that pop-ups are enabled -- you want pop-ups to occur.
  3. Adjust your browser's settings

In accordance to the District's Security Plan, employee passwords are administratively expired twice each year, once during each Spring and Fall semesters.
