Principles of Health

This survey course on the principles of health and wellness aims to enhance the student's self-awareness through exposure to the principles of wellness. Topics include exercise, weight maintenance, nutrition, human sexuality, sexual responses, sexually transmitted diseases, drug use, misuse and abuse, cancers, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

This course covers the principles of health and wellness and aims to enhance self-awareness on health topics.  Topics include exercise, weight management, nutrition, human sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, drug use, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. 

This class is a hybrid course.  You will spend one day a week in the classroom and the rest of the course will be online and will require students to submit assignments once per week. Be prepared to spend approximately 3-6 hours per week on coursework/reading the textbook.  The class is not self-paced and late work is not accepted.

Textbook: Core Concepts in Health by Insel & Roth, 15th edition, Brief, McGraw-Hill Publishers.  (You DO NOT need a Connect Access Code.)  The MiraCosta bookstore has a custom bound copy available to purchase for $95.55 or to rent for $71.75.  You may use an older edition of the text, but it will be your responsibility to assess differences in each chapter.  There is a copy of the textbook on closed reserve at the Oceanside campus library,
