Principles of Health

This survey course on the principles of health and wellness aims to enhance the student's self-awareness through exposure to the principles of wellness. Topics include exercise, weight maintenance, nutrition, human sexuality, sexual responses, sexually transmitted diseases, drug use, misuse and abuse, cancers, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Instructor notes: This course covers the principles of health and wellness and aims to enhance self-awareness on health topics. Topics include exercise, weight management, nutrition, human sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, drug use, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
This class is fully online and will require students to submit assignments once per week. Weekly assignments will consist of a discussion topic, chapter quiz, and homework assignment.  Be prepared to spend approximately 6-9 hours per week on coursework/reading the textbook.  The class is not self-paced and late work is not accepted.
Textbook: Core Concepts in Health by Insel & Roth, 15th edition, Brief, McGraw-Hill Publishers.  (You DO NOT need a Connect Access Code.) The MiraCosta bookstore has a custom bound copy available to purchase for $95.55 or to rent for $71.75. You may use an older edition of the text, but it will be your responsibility to assess differences in each chapter.  There is a copy of the textbook on closed reserve at the Oceanside campus library,
