Principles of Health

This survey course on the principles of health and wellness aims to enhance the student's self-awareness through exposure to the principles of wellness. Topics include exercise, weight maintenance, nutrition, human sexuality, sexual responses, sexually transmitted diseases, drug use, misuse and abuse, cancers, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Instructor notes: This class is fully online and will require students to submit assignments a minimum of once per week. Weekly assignments will consist of discussions, chapter quiz(zes), a glimpse, and a behavior change journal.  One exam every four weeks.  Be prepared to spend approximately 6-9 hours per week on coursework/reading the textbook. The class is not self-paced and late work is not accepted. 

Textbook: Core Concepts in Health by Insel &; Roth, 15th edition, Brief, McGraw-Hill.  The MiraCosta bookstore has a custom copy available to purchase or rent.  You may use an older edition, but it will be your responsibility to assess differences in each chapter.  There is a copy of the textbook on reserve at the Oceanside campus library,
