Microsoft Word for Business

Students learn how to use Microsoft Word, the industry-standard tool for word processing in business environments. This comprehensive course includes fundamentals, such as document design, section breaks, table of contents, graphics, columns, citations, and tables, as well as more advanced features, such as document collaboration, workgroup tools, template customization, mail merge, macros, object linking, forms, security, and Web enabling. This course helps prepare students for the Microsoft Certification Exam.

Instructor notes: This late-start class is a comprehensive course teaching skills and features of Microsoft Word 2016. It is conducted 100% over the Internet, using Blackboard and Simnet (two teaching/learning websites), and e-mail. Students will receive an email from me 1-2 weeks before class begins, that will provide important information about what to expect and how to get started. I will send all emails to students using their email addresses listed in MiraCosta College SURF. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me now at: I keep tight communication with my students throughout the semester, and I provide individualized guidance and feedback on projects. 

This class helps fulfill requirements for several different degrees and certificates. There are inexpensive ways students can obtain the materials they will need for this class. Students need the textbook, as well as a license to use an online software called Simnet (it comes with the textbook in a discounted package).
