ZTC and LTC Classes

The college strives to ensure that the ZTC and LTC designations are accurate; however, under some circumstances, faculty may have to adjust selection of instructional materials and this can affect course material costs. It may also be necessary to change instructors. Replacement faculty have academic freedom to choose instructional materials regardless of costs and are not obligated to use free course materials selected by an instructor previously assigned to the class.

Health, Safety, and Nutrition

This course provides those who care for children an overview of health, safety, and nutrition issues. Students develop skills and techniques in ways to promote physical and mental health, identification and management of common childhood illnesses, menu planning and nutritional analysis, safety management and injury prevention, child abuse identification and prevention, and program planning. Topics also include culturally and developmentally appropriate practice, collaboration with families and health professionals, policies and regulations, children with special needs, and current issues.  The instructor will open the course in Canvas for preview approximately one week before the start of the semester so that students can access the syllabus, view the class schedule, and become familiar with the structure of the class. Textbook information: Zero Textbook Cost-This course provides a collection of readings at no cost to the student.  All required reading assignments will be made available to students through Canvas.


You will also need the California Preschool Learning Foundations, Volume 2, and the California Preschool Curriculum Framework, Volume 2. They are available free online (link is provided in the Canvas course, in the Syllabus, and in "Resources and Links") or you can also purchase them through the bookstore.
