MiraCosta College Discourages Texting and Driving
In an effort to eliminate car accidents involving texting, MiraCosta College is participating in the AT&T TXTNG & DRVNG…It Can Wait campaign.
It Can Wait
focuses on a simple, powerful message: No text is worth dying for. The campaign goes further than just raising awareness about the dangers of texting while driving; it challenges the public to not text while behind the wheel, so September 19 has been designated as No Text On Board Pledge Day.
“Working with teens day-in and day-out, we see firsthand the impact that peer pressure – and peer influence – have on the decisions they make,” said Sandra Spavone, executive director of the
National Organizations for Youth Safety
.
“That’s what makes AT&T’s efforts so effective. They understand that by working with these teens and incorporating their feedback programmatically, that ultimately, we’ll reach even more of that critical and impressionable audience with a message they’ll hear.”
More than 100,000 traffic accidents a year involve drivers who are texting, according to the National Safety Council.
