Learn the Ins and Outs of Home Remodeling
Property owners will have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals the ins and outs of home remodeling and new home construction in a one-day, noncredit course, Renovating and Improving Your Home. Designed to save you time, stress and money before you begin, the workshop will include representatives from the fields of architecture, permits, engineering, contracting and interior design, who will provide tips on everything from what to look for in an architect and contractor, to the requirements involved in securing proper permits, and more.
“People who take this class will get an overall idea of what to expect,” said instructor Michael Taylor, owner of Taylor Homes & Associates in Rancho Santa Fe. “This will give the homeowner a foundation of understanding what they are about to get into.”
Other topics covered in will include the pros and cons of hiring an interior designer, and costs and services associated with structural and civil engineers.
The class is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Room 201 at the MiraCosta College San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff. The fee for the class is $50.
Taylor noted that with the economy slowly improving and with the housing market remaining tight, more people are starting to again look at remodeling instead of moving. “We’re going to make sure you are prepared before you renovate your home,” he said.
Taylor is a designer and general contractor who has been in the home-building business for more than 30 years. His late father, Romie Taylor, also built homes in San Diego County for more than three decades.
“I’ll often hear people who have remodeled their homes say, `I wish I would have taken a course like that before I got started,’” Taylor said.
