MiraCosta College Presents the Musical, “Guys and Dolls”

Guys and Dolls

MiraCosta College’s Theatre Department is proud to present “Guys and Dolls,” a singing and dancing extravaganza that opens March 1 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Tracy Williams is the director, with choreography by Dave Massey and music direction by Jim Shepard. Music and lyrics by Frank Loesser; book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

Considered one of the great musical scores in the history of American theatre, the original production of “Guys and Dolls” debuted on Broadway in 1950, ran for 1,200 performances and won a Tony Award for Best Musical. The play follows gamblers Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson and a bet they make: Can Sky convince Save-A-Soul Mission’s pious Sgt. Sarah Brown to take off to Havana with him? Meanwhile, Nathan has his own problem—his mistress, Miss Adelaide, wants the already-married Nathan to commit to her. The play is populated with gangsters, gamblers, missionary “dolls” and scantily clad showgirls, and moves from the gritty streets of mid-20th century New York City to the nightclubs and casinos of decadent Havana.

The cast includes Bryan Taylor as Nathan Detroit, Ala Tiatia as Sky Masterson, Zedrick Villegas-Evans as Nicely Nicely Johnson, Marshall Elstad as Benny Southstreet, and Kelsey McNeilly as Miss Adelaide. Rounding out the cast are Julie Ames, Chris Braden, Brittany Brooks, Kayti Bulfinch, Gian Caballero, Salisha Carr, Daniel Dennert, Zach Elliot, Patricia Fa’asua, Andy Hunter, Kelsey Huebscher, Kirsten Kevalaitis, Charles Lin, Kinsey McCabe, Brhee McClure, Kanae Miyahara, Katie Nelson, Courtney Park, Mark Patricio, Erin Smith, Marty Weiss, Ben Williams and Edromar Undag.

Performances are scheduled for March 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m., and March 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 2 p.m. General admission is $12; seniors, $10; and students, $8. A preview performance is scheduled for February 28 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $8 for this night only.
