MiraCosta College Students to Perform Music from Self-Produced CD

New Paradigm

Students in MiraCosta College’s Business of Music II class will present a concert featuring music from their self-made CD, New Paradigm. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the MiraCosta College Concert Hall, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Admission is free.

Sound engineers from the Sound Reinforcement II course will manage the sound for the concert, and Business of Music II students have managed all business aspects for the CD and have written all the songs for the album, and music majors will perform live at the CD showcase concert.

“This is a very exciting project for our class and we are enjoying each step of the process,” Says Devi Adea, one of the singer/songwriters featured on the album. “It is a culmination of so much of what the Music Department provides all in one package.”

With the onset of technology, the landscape of the music industry has completely shifted and continues to shift to keep up with each new technological advance. Thus a “New Paradigm” has evolved. As the students blaze a new trail through the changes, they solidify the new paradigm.

The New Paradigm album contains 9 songs performed by 13 students, and is an eclectic mix of music. The CD is released on the 2304 Records label and is administered solely by enrollees, under the tutelage of their instructor Dan Siegel. The record label, 2304 Records, is named after the MiraCosta College classroom in which they rehearse.

A sampler disc will be on sale at the concert for $5; 75% of the CD proceeds will benefit the Music Department, 25% will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
