MiraCosta College’s Theatre Department is proud to present “Blood Wedding”, one of Federico Garcia Lorca’s most passion-driven plays, which is set to open November 15 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Eric Bishop will direct.
“Blood Wedding” was first performed in Madrid in 1933. Packed with emotion, the play is set in rural Spain and poetically portrays two past lovers and the depth of their feelings for each other. The play is centered on the impending marriage of La Novia (The Bride) and El Novio (The Groom). As the big day edges closer, emotions conflict as a love triangle takes “Blood Wedding” into a trembling downward spiral of passion and despair. “This is a challenging, thought-provoking, powerfully poetic and beautifully imagistic play that goes hand-in-hand with the playwright Federico Garcia Lorca's quote, ‘A play is a poem standing up’,” said Bishop. The cast features Mariana Chacon as The Bride, Timothy Cabal as The Groom, Jose Balistrieri as Leonardo, Patricia Fa’asua as The Mother and Camilla Elizabet as The Mother-in-Law. Rounding out the cast are Sophia Richards, Melba Novoa, Khamisi Butler, Sean Hale, Bryan Taylor, Caroline Floto, Jesse Trout, Daniel Liuag, Kelly Saunders, Courtney Nedelman, Rachael Hode, Ryan Hook, Justin Carty, Marlon Chow, Matthew Abosamra, Carol Naegle, Kelsey Cyganik, Johanna Deleissegues, Carolyn Lieberman, Eric Foster and Ed Fishwick.Performances are scheduled for November 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m., and November 17, 23, 24 at 2 p.m. General admission is $15; seniors/staff, $12; and students, $12.
