2013-2014 Student Ambassador Team

Brian

Brian

Hello, I am Brian.  I am a Biochemistry major at MiraCosta and I plan to transfer to UCSD, UC Irvine or UC Santa Cruz in the Fall of 2014.  I grew up in Encinitas and graduated from San Dieguito Academy.  After several years of working, I decided to go back to school at MiraCosta to start earning my degree.  In the future, I hope to work in the pharmaceutical industry as a drug discovery researcher.  I hope to research and develop medications and therapies that will help people with disabilities lead more normal lives. I love living in Encinitas and being a MiraCosta student.  In my free time, I love to go swimming, camping, hiking, bike riding, and spending time outdoors with friends.  I am actively involved in the MiraCosta Natural Science Club which plans different camping trips every semester for students and faculty.  Learning about and being active in the natural world has become one of my passions, thanks to MiraCosta’s inspiring teachers. I enjoy being a student ambassador at MiraCosta because it allows me to give back to the community I love.

Lauren

Lauren

My name is Lauren and I was born in Portland, Oregon. I am a proud graduate of San Dieguito Academy! I am living at home with my younger sister and mom while I continue my education at MiraCosta College. This will be my second year as a student ambassador at MiraCosta College.  I am majoring in Education and transferring to Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego in fall. My overall goal is to receive my B.A. at Point Loma and move back to Oregon to teach elementary education. When I'm not working or at school, I am usually at the beach, playing with my dogs or hanging out with friends. My biggest passion in life is taking to people and helping them out in any way I can.

Ariella

Ariella

Hello! I’m Ariella. When I was 16, I graduated early from Del Norte High School in 2011. I know what it is like to be the youngest person in the class. After meeting with a great transfer counselor, Lise Flocken, I knew I wanted to major in Business Administration. My love for organization and helping to start and complete projects drew me to the business industry. I dream of transferring this coming fall to Haas Business School in University of Berkeley. At MiraCosta College, I really wanted to establish a Jewish community to celebrate the holidays with, so I began the Hillel of MiraCosta club, which puts on events and educates fellow students in Jewish culture. Giving back to the community and helping people find their purpose in life is my main passion in life. In my free time, I love to sing, play guitar, and eat French pastries. I am also obsessed with Improvisational comedy and hope to join a Comedy Troupe this year! I have lived in San Diego for 13 years, but one day I hope to live in New York. Overall, attending MiraCosta College has been a welcoming and life changing experience. I will forever carry how the teachers, culture, and services have affected my life in such a positive way. Please, if you have any questions at all, feel free to shoot me an email!

Britney

Britney

Greetings! My name is Britney and I am a nursing major at MiraCosta College. This is my first year as a student and as a student ambassador. I plan to transfer to San Diego State University and attend graduate school at UC San Francisco. I am the oldest of 5 children and I am the first to attend college in my family. I am originally from the east coast but I love California and plan to spend the rest of my life here. In my spare time, I sew, knit, crochet, weave, decorate, and cook. My goal in life is to become a certified nurse, midwife, and open a birthing center and clinic in San Diego. The clinic would use art and home comforts to make a woman’s labor easier. As a student ambassador, I look forward to helping potential students and lifelong-learners gain experience, assistance, and knowledge from MiraCosta College. I am excited to be at MiraCosta and thrilled to use my experiences and skills to show our community that college is for everyone.

Va'a

Va'a

“Talofa lava”, is how we greet people from the islands of Samoa.  I am Faatauvaa, but you can call me "Va'a".  I am a proud alumni of Oceanside High School and a student at MiraCosta College. My family is originally from the Pacific Ocean,  where the storms and the swaying palm trees live on the islands of Samoa. My education began the first time I laid eyes upon the horizon, climbing trees in the forest, riding the waves of the sea and humming to the songs of church hymns. Presently, I am a full time student working toward earning an Associates Degree in Psychology. I am planning on transferring to Cal State San Marcos. In addition to working for Young Life, I am involved with many organizations on campus, which include the First Year Experience Club, Pacific Islanders Club, Student Ambassadors, and many more. This is my second year as an ambassador and my third year attending MiraCosta College. My goal is to be the best student that I can be and to graduate in spring. If you see me around, please don’t hesitate to stop me for a few questions!

Hello! My name is Jorge and I was born and raised in San Diego. I am an electrical engineering major at MiraCosta and plan to transfer to either UC Berkeley or UCSD.  Growing up in my hometown of Encinitas, I have grown to appreciate the true value of being involved in my community. My mother started a non-profit organization called the “Mano a Mano Foundation” for at-risk youth in the Latino community.  I have been involved with this organization for eight years. Now that I am a student at  MiraCosta, I feel privileged to attend a school that values giving back to the community as much as I do. As a Student Ambassador, I will do my best to inform future students about the many opportunities MiraCosta has to offer and continue to serve my community to the best of my ability.

Darh'ra

Aloha! My name is Darh'ra and I am honored to be serving as a MiraCosta Student Ambassador. After graduating from Rancho Buena Vista High school in 2012 at the age of seventeen, I was overwhelmed and unsure of which direction I should steer my life. Fortunately, MiraCosta has provided me both the security and stability that I needed to feel confident in myself, not only as a student, but as a person as well. I am an undecided major, but I plan to change this with time, knowledge, and experience. You might have seen me here at MiraCosta last year either running around from class to class or working as a Student Office Assistant for the helpful and beautiful staff members here in the Student Activities Office. As a second-year student, first-year ambassador, I am looking forward to completing my educational goals, serving my community to the best of my abilities, and working closely with members of our community. Live long & prosper.
