CALLEJA, RUIZ AND WRIGHT ALL-CONFERENCE (Nov 13th, 2012)
After a season of strong play three MiraCosta Spartans have been honored as all-conference players. Sophomore Danny Calleja (RBV), freshman Angel Ruiz (RBV) and freshman Nelson Wright (Carlsbad) all earned the honor. The coaching staff would like to congratulate all three young men for their achievements.
STRONG PLAY EARNS SPARTANS A VICTORY (Oct 17th, 2012)
On Tuesday the MiraCosta College men's soccer team cotinued their strong team play and went home with a well earned win. In the 3-1 victory, Nelson Wright (Carlsbad HS) was involved with all three goals. He scored one and assited on the two others, which were scored by David Hernandez and Mario Garcia. The Spartans are next in action Friday at Imperial Valley.
SPARTANS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A WIN (Sept 25th, 2012)
Fueled by two goals from sophomore Neal Keith (Carlsbad High School) the Spartans beat Imperial Valley College 3-1. After a 1-1 first half, the Spartans scored early in the second half and never looked back. MiraCosta men's soccer team plays at home this Friday in an important conference match up at 4:00pm.
MEN'S SOCCER STILL UNDEFEATED (Sept 14th, 2012)
Despite being on the road after a long drive up to Monterrey Bay, the MiraCosta College men's soccer team did enough to hold on for a 1-0 win against the host Monterrey Peninsula College. The victory improves the Spartans to 2-0-2 heading into a big weekend with games against Rio Hondo College and Consumnes River College. SPARTAN MEN'S SOCCER RETURNS (Sept 10th, 2012)
The Spartans are back and they have opened the year with a 1-0-1 record. Led by Coach Frank Zimmerman the men's soccer team is ready to establish themselves as a force in the community college ranks. In the opening game the Spartans defeated Victor Valley College with goals by Chris Huber and Ruben Esparza. In their second game Santiago Canyon scored a late goal to earn the tie, the Spartans had goals by Nelson Wright and Ulisses Pina.
MIRACOSTA COLLEGE HIRES FRANK ZIMMERMAN (Dec, 2012)
"We've hired the best coach we could ever hope for," says Dan Mulville, MiraCosta College’s athletic director. "He has experience at the community college level as a player and coach, he’s been tremendously successful at Oceanside High School and his club program is simply amazing.” A native of Oceanside, Zimmerman is a graduate of Oceanside High School and MiraCosta College, and he played on the soccer team at both schools. He completed his bachelor’s degree in vocational education at San Diego State University, and now teaches digital video communications and runs the audio-visual department at Oceanside High School. “It’s a privilege and an honor to be a part of MiraCosta College,” Zimmerman says. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to work at my alma mater. I think this is a tremendous opportunity and something that my family and I are very excited about. I love the idea of working with students. I can’t wait to get to work.” The MiraCosta College men's soccer coach is a part-time position. Zimmerman will continue to work at Oceanside High School, and will also continue to lead the Soccer Club of Oceanside. MiraCosta College is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank Zimmerman as the new coach for its men's soccer team. A 24-year coaching veteran, Zimmerman served previously as assistant coach at Palomar College and also assisted with the MiraCosta College women’s team in 2006. Zimmerman has been the head coach at Oceanside High School for the past 16 seasons as well as the director of coaching for the Soccer Club of Oceanside.
