LADY SPARTANS WIN BIG ON THE ROAD 64-36 (Jan 23rd, 2013)
After a near three hour drive southeast, the lady Spartans stayed focused and determined in a convincing 64-36 victory over Imperial Valley College. The Spartans never trailed in the game and got contributions from every player. The team's record has improved to 2-2 in conference play. Four players scored in double digits with Megan Fennessy leading the scoring with 17, Angleina Hix with 12, Bryce Nelson with 11, and Savannah Summers with 10. Angelina Hix completed another double-double with 10 rebounds.
LADY SPARTANS EARN FIRST CONFERENCE WIN (Jan 11th, 2013)
The Spartans protected their home court in their first conference victory against a feisty Grossmont team. The Spartans were down by seven in the first half but came out with a burst of energy in the second half to beat Grossmont college 48-44. Megan Fennessy shot 5-9 from 3-point range to give her a game high 23 points. She also added 5 rebounds. Freshmen Savannah Summers added 11 points.
SPARTANS COME UP SHORT ON THE ROAD (Jan 9th, 2013)
Lady Spartans took on the knights of San Diego City College in the conference opener and lost a close match 51-56. The Spartans struggled from the floor and played catch-up for most of the game. Sophomores Megan Fennessy and Angelina Hix both had double-doubles with Megan scoring 16 points with 14 rebounds and Angelina scoring 11 with 13 rebounds. Freshmen Bryce Nelson added 13 points
LADY SPARTANS PLAY GREAT COMPETITION AND EARN PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE (12/29/12)
The Spartans played with tenacity in the loss against Arizona Western in the first home game of the year. The Spartans lost the game 28-62 in the final tune up game before conference play that begins at San Diego City on January 9th. Megan Fennessy led all scorers with 12 and added 6 rebounds. Nicole Verrett added 8 points and 5 rebounds.
SPARTANS GET SOLID WIN ON THE ROAD AT COLLEGE OF THE DESERT (12/19/12)
Lady Spartans went on their longest road trip to face college of the desert for the second time of the year. The Spartans struggled in the first half trailing 22-27 at half but came out in second half and won the game 61-51. Sophomore Megan Fennessy led all scorers with 15 and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Nicole Verrett came off the bench to score 11. There was strong contributions from many Spartans in the win. Murray Laumau added 9 points and 9 rebounds. Angelina Hix scored 10 points with 8 rebounds.
MIRA COSTA EARNS FIRST WIN IN SANTA ANA COLLEGE TOURNAMENT (12/4/12)
Spartans took the floor on Thursday night with a dominating first 10 minutes in the first half with strong contributions from the entire team. Merced College bounced back to beat the Spartans 74-48. Sophomore Angelina Hix led all Spartan scorers with 19 points and added 9 rebounds. Freshmen Bryce Nelson led all rebounders with 10.
In the 2nd game of the tournament the Spartans executed a strong 40 minute effort in rout of College of the Desert 70-48 for the first win of the season. Four Spartans scored double-digit points with Megan Fennessy leading with 18, Angelina Hix with 14, Nicole Verrett with 12, and Savannah Summers with 10. Megan Fennessy led all rebounders with 11. Spartans look to build on this win as the season continues.
After winning the first game of the season, the Spartans looked to finish the tournament with two wins in a row. However, Bakersfield College spoiled that plan. Bakersfield played the Spartans tough for all 40 minutes and hit clutch free throws when the game was on the line. MiraCosta College got strong contributions from sophomores Megan Fennessy and Yasmin Kamani. Megan scored a game high 21 points with 9 rebounds, while Yasmin Kamani scored 13. The Spartans look to regain their confidence as they head over to Pasadena for the final tournament of the season next weekend,
Women's Basketball Loses Season Opener to defending State Champions (Nov 10th, 2012)
MiraCosta women's basketball was faced with a tough task in the season opener at. Mt. San Antonio this Friday. The Spartans competed and fought hard until the final horn sounded as they took on the defending state champions. Sophomore Megan Fennessy and freshmen Savannah Summers led all scorers with 8 points. Freshmen Bryce Nelson led all rebounds with 6.
Spartans had another tough test against the 5th ranked team in California when they took on San Bernadino Valley on Saturday. Despite a strong effort the Spartans came up short. Savannah Summers led all scorers with 14 points and Nicole Verrett and Bryce Nelson led all rebounds with 7.
