Tired of the question, “Can there be peace in the Middle East?” - this lecture is for you! Join guest lecturer, Ali Olomi, as he explores the historical amnesia surrounding colonialism across AMEMSA+ (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian)+ communities and shines a historical light on present-day turmoils.

Ali Olomi is a scholar of Middle East history specializing in the intellectual and cultural history of the region. He is currently pursuing higher academia at UCI, is a lecturer, cultural consultant, writer, and researcher.

Yallah! Underground, a film by Farid Eslam, follows some of today’s most influential and progressive artists in Arab underground culture from 2009 to 2013 and documents their work, dreams and fears in a time of great change for Arab societies.
