Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Pilipinx? While the term Filipino/a is traditionally used to depict this population, the planning committee felt the need to be culturally appropriate as there is no "F" in the alphabet. The "x" replaces the "o/a" to beinclusive of those with unique gender identities.

Why are there only five points on the logo instead of eight points? The flag of the Philippines has eight points to represent each major province. At MiraCosta College, students, staff, and faculty who identify as Pilipinx and Pilipinx-American are not seen or are placed within the Asian or Pacific Islander populations. The five points establish the Pilipinx star as being partly visible, or the Pilipinx campus community being partly visible, with the hope that the Pilipinx community will become more visible in the near future.

How do I become eligible for a prize from attending PAHM? Sign in at three or more PAHM events, turn in a survey at the end of the event, and receive a stamp or signature from the events' presenters and/or PAHM committee member.
