Volunteer Needs: One pint of blood can save up to three lives and you can be part of that process by being a registration table host to greet and educate the donors as they arrive. ARC Blood Services holds two to five blood drives a day somewhere in San Diego County, from the border to Temecula, everywhere you can imagine, schools, malls, military bases, and local businesses. Registration volunteers are needed to help check in donors. Drives last 6 hours long and volunteers can stay for the entire day or half of the day, hours are 7:30-7:00. Having a volunteer at the registration table is often the difference between our blood drives making goal or not. Bilingual volunteers are always needed especially in the North County. A volunteer application and online background check is required free of charge. Minimum age is 16.

Volunteer Needs: Tutoring English to high school students. English language learner class meets period 3, Mon.-Fri. 12:00-1:30, but any assistance is welcome. College students are also needed to mentor "at promise" high school students (meeting with them once a week to check up on them, in a Big Sister/ Brother role). The students are protracted language learners, i.e. students who are verbally fluent in English, although their dominant home language is Spanish. Students must first contact the Service Learning Office for additional information and paperwork.

Volunteer Needs: "NO LONGER ACCEPTING STUDENTS THIS SEMESTER" Seacrest Village Retirement Communities (SVRC), is a vibrant not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) senior housing and healthcare organization with communities in both Encinitas and Rancho Bernardo, California. Known for our caring and nurturing environment, SVRC has been serving the ever-growing San Diego community in the Jewish tradition since 1944. We use volunteers in a variety of ways. With our four levels of care web use volunteers can help with visits, computers, outings, memory care, clerical work, classes and more. Students must agree to serve a minimum of 20 hours and attend an orientation and interview. Typically students are scheduled one day each week for about two to three hours for the duration of their service learning class. Volunteer Needs: In the preschool setting volunteers will assist teachers in preparing classroom environments, implementing curriculum plans, and working with children constructively while they play. In the kindergarten setting, volunteers will work one-on-one with students who are in need of special attention during class time, with an emphasis in fine motor skills and early pre-math and reading. In physical education, volunteers can assist PE coaches in setting up and implementing curriculum for K-8th grade students. Hours vary by day and grade setting. All volunteers must present proof of current TB (not older than 4 years) and must obtain a background and fingerprinting check, processed through "Choice Point" and paid by St. Mary Star of Sea.

Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to serve as Keeper Aides Mon.-Sun. 8am-12pm. Gain experience with exotic animals at a local non-profit conservation and education facility through duties such as assisting staff with general husbandry (cleaning cages and distributing diets), socializing animals, and occasional education programs and events. Must be in good physical condition (able to lift 50 pounds) and able to commit to 4 shifts per month. Volunteers are also needed to help with marketing and development needs. Duties would include implementing the organization's business plan while following the institutional mission, database entry (excel, access). All volunteers must pay a $25.00 orientation fee.
