Download Internet Explorer
SURF requires Microsoft's Internet Explorer -- version 8.0 or better. Go to Microsoft's website to download Internet Explorer.
Enable Cookies (v. 8.0)
Cookies must be enabled in order to use SURF.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select Privacy.
- Click the Default button to set the Internet Zone security level to Medium.
- Click OK

Set Caching
For SURF to display the most updated information, Internet browsers must check for new information every visit to the page.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select General.
- In the Browsing history section, click Settings.
- Select Every time I visit the webpage in the section Check for newer versions of stored pages.
- Click OK twice.

Enable SSL
Because SURF is hosted on a secured server, SSL (Secure Sockets Layers) must be enabled in order to access the website.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select the Advanced tab, and in the Security section check the box for Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0.
- Click Apply and then OK.

Enable JavaScript
JavaScript is required for SURF to function properly.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- If you don't have Java installed in your computer, click here Java
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select Security.
- Click Custom Level.
- In the Scripting section, select Enable for these three categories: a) Active Scripting, b) Allow status bar updates via Script, and c) Scripting of Java Applets.
- Click OK twice. Use your Internet browser's Refresh button to see the changed results.

Clearing the CACHE for Internet Explorer v8 browser
Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data, Passwords, and InPrivate Filtering data that are saved in the computer may contain past data/information which may affect future attempts for successful logins.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select the Tools menu.
- Select Internet Options
- In the General tab, select the Delete... button located in the Browsing history section.
- When the Delete Browsing History dialog box appears, check-mark all 6 checkboxes except the first checkbox called Preserve Favorites website data. Click the Delete button to start clearing the cache of your browser.
- When finished, click the OK button.
- For the settings to take effect, close the browser and then reopen it.

Enable Session Cookies
When the error Multiple web sessions are being generated occurs, you must enable third party cookies on your computer.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Click Privacy.
- Click Advanced located in the Settings section.
- Check on Override automatic cookie handling.
- Check on Always allow session cookies.
- Select OK on the Advanced Privacy Settings window.
- Click OK.

Disable Password Auto-Save
If the auto-complete feature is active in the browser and the SURF password is updated, there may be conflicts which will affect successful login to SURF.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select the Content bar.
- In the AutoComplete section, click the Settings button.
- Remove the checkmark from User names and passwords on forms.
- Click the Delete AutoComplete history... button.
- When the Delete Browsing History dialog box appears, check-mark all 6 checkboxes except the first checkbox called Preserve Favorites website data. Click the Delete button to start clearing the cache of your browser.
- When finished, click the OK button.
- For the settings to take effect, close the browser and then reopen it.

Pop-Up Blocker
Pop-up Blocker disables or enables pop-up windows (a.k.a. advertisement windows) that will display while using a web browser. While working with MiraCosta's online systems, some features will not work until the Windows pop-up blocker has been turned off.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools.
- Select Pop-up Blocker.
- Select Pop-up Blocker settings.
- If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific web site, type the web address/URL of the site in the Address of website to allow: box. Click the Add button.
- Click the Close button.
- TIP: To temporarily allow a site to display pop-ups, click the Information yellow Bar when it notifies you that a pop-up has been blocked, select Temporarily Allow Pop-ups. More info.

Date & Time Properties (PeopleSoft error message)
In order to use SURF, you must ensure that your computer's date and time are correct. If incorrect, you can get an error message stating that your PeopleSoft connection has expired. Please do the following to verify your computer's date and time:
- Select Start
- Select Control Panel.
- Select Date and Time Properties.
- Check the clock on the right hand side and make sure that everything is correct.
- Check the date on the left hand side and ensure that the correct date is highlighted.
- Select Time Zone and ensure that your computer is in the right time zone (Pacific Time (US & Canada).
- Ensure the "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" box is checked.
- Select Apply.
- Select the Date and Time Properties again and manually adjust the time if it changed.
- Select Apply and then OK to change the settings.

Computers Using Foreign Language
Adjust the language settings in your browser if you cannot login from your computer using a different language other than English.. FYI...SURF only operates in English language.
- Launch your Internet Explorer browser that is set to another language other than English.
- Select the Tools menu.
- Select Internet Options and click Languages on the General tab.
- Click the Add... button and select the English (United States) [en-us] language.
- Delete the non-english language in the Language: box.
- Click OK twice.
- Restart the Internet Explorer.
