Third-Year Student
Hometown: Ramona, CA
Studying: Environmental Science and Economics

Hi! My name is Cesar. I’ve been at MiraCosta since Fall 2013. I have really loved my time at MiraCosta, but this is my last year here. I plan to transfer to the University of California, Santa Cruz in the fall. After graduation, I plan to work with Peace Corps in South America or wherever I will be most helpful. When I’m not at school or work, I like to hike the mountains around the Santa Maria Valley, or go to farmer’s markets.

What I love about MiraCosta College: The faculty and staff.

Picture of Katrina

First-Year Student
Hometown: Coronado and Oceanside
Studying: Administration of Justice

Heyyy! My name is Katrina. I attended two different high schools in San Diego County. I went to Granite Hills High for 3 years and I went to Oceanside High for my senior year. I am officially an alumni of Oceanside High. Go Pirates! I am currently studying here at MiraCosta to get my general education finished, and I plan on transferring to either Cal State San Marcos or Cal State Northridge. After I obtain a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, I plan on going to Stanford Law School to obtain a Law Degree with an emphasis in Civil Rights. I would love to work for ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) or for the Human Rights Campaign. I am excited to have this learning opportunity at such a wonderful and welcoming college! I love to spend my free time surfing, going to the beach, listening to music, and hanging out with friends/family. I can't wait to start my life as a college student and as a Student Ambassador!

What I love about MiraCosta College: I love how the MiraCosta community comes together and that everyone on campus is included. The people at MiraCosta is super friendly and helpful.

Second-Year Student
Hometown: Escondido, CA
Studying: Spanish & Linguistics

Hello! My name is Yazmin. This is my second year at MiraCosta College, and my second year as a Student Ambassador. I was raised in Escondido, CA. As a first-generation college student and an AB 540 student, getting to college was exciting, but it also meant I had to work twice as hard. I feel very privileged to have worked with the many talented individuals that guided me to pursue a higher education. Now that I am familiar with the many resources, programs, and opportunities MiraCosta has to offer, I am excited to help other students pursue their goals! My major is Spanish and Linguistics, and I have big dreams on transfering to UCLA.

What I love about MiraCosta College: The support and services. The support the faculty offers is wonderful because they help you understand how the college process works. The services on campus are helpful for both personal and academic life. Simply knowing you are not alone is comforting!

Picture of Lupita

Second-Year Student
Hometown: Vista, California
Major: Administration of Justice

Hello there! My name is Lupita, and I graduated from Guajome Park Academy in 2014. My educational goal is to obtain an AA degree in Administration of Justice, and then transfer to a CSU to obtain my Bachelor’s degree. I am planning on becoming a police officer in order to work with the Non-English speaking community, a group that is underserved in the police force. The lack of bilingual offices causes leads to a miscommunication and distrust problem in many communities. As an officer, I want to empower women and other minorities who fear that law enforcement will not understand their them. When I'm not at MiraCosta, I watch K-dramas, go to concerts, or enjoy the beautiful scenery that California has to offer.

What I love about MiraCosta College: I love MiraCosta because the students and staff here are very supportive and welcoming.

Picture of Fernando

Second Year Student
Rancho Bernardo, California
Major: Communication

Bonjour! My name is Fernando.  I grew up in a suburb by the name of Rancho Bernardo and commuted every day with my (Teacher) mom to school in Valley Center. Shortly after beginning high school in Valley Center my family and I moved up there in order to avoid the treacherous drive. Little did I know that I would be attending MiraCosta College, and that my educational pilgrimage would only continue. This is my second year at MCC and I am currently studying communications. I’m hoping to transfer to UCLA or USC in the fall of 2016 and later find my passion in the media industry. I don’t generally have spare time, but if for some miraculous reason I stumble upon some, I enjoy playing tennis, going to the gym, snowboarding, and playing the piano.

What I love about MiraCosta College: One aspect I favor the most is the professor/student interaction.  This is a direct result of having small class sizes. Nowadays it’s difficult to find an institution where the professor knows each and every student by name and sometimes even personally emails each student custom study methods to cohere with their own individualized learning methods.

Picture of Richie

Second-Year Student
Studying: Computer Science

Hello, my name is Ricardo, better known as Richie. I graduated from Carlsbad High School, where I was Encuentros Club Vice President, part of the Peer Leaders Uniting Students (PLUS) team, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). My educational goal is to transfer to UC San Diego or UC Irvine to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I want to become a Computer Network Architect to design and maintain networks and fix issues that occur when set up takes place.  When I have free time from studying, I like to play soccer, hang out with friends and family, and read poetry.

What I love about MiraCosta College: I appreciate the faculty at MiraCosta because they are always there when students need help. MiraCosta also has many opportunities for students to find themselves and to continue pursuing their life goals.

Picture of Alex

Third-Year Student
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
Major: General Biology

Hello! My name is Alex, I am a Marine Corps Veteran. I plan to transfer to UCSD, in the fall of 2016 and major in Biology.  As a third-year student, I feel privileged to be part of a school that provides their veterans with resources to succeed academically. As a second year Ambassador, I will continue to encourage people to achieve higher education, as well as serving my community to the best of my ability.

What I love about MiraCosta College: The programs and services for veterans.

Picture of Teresa

First-Year Student (Returning)
Hometown: Vista
Studying: Communications

Hey there! I'm Teresa and I am actually a returning MiraCosta College student after eight years of being in the working field. All the wrong jobs have most definitely steered me to what I have really been looking for all these years... a yearning for that learning! This will be my first year serving as Student Ambassador and I am elated with the opportunity to be a voice for this hidden gem of a school.  In addition I will get to increase my own knowledge about the "ins and outs" of this institution. I have quite a few interests, however, narrowing it down would inevitably lead to a career working with people (hence the communications major). A Public Relations profession would be my ultimate goal. After I obtain my Associate’s Degree, I wish to transfer to either UC Berkeley or UCLA in order to further my education in pursuit of a Bachelors Degree. I can go on for days about hobbies, interests, and past experiences, but I will close with my hope of changing this world one baby step at a time!

Picture of Bri

First-Year Student
Hometown: Oceanside ,California
Studying: Political Science

Bonjour! My name is Brianna. This is my first year at MiraCosta College after graduating from Oceanside High School. I was born in Los Angeles, but I moved to Oceanside for military reasons. I am working on my general education to obtain an AA degree in political science. The things I do on my spare time are read, help out in my community by volunteering at the public library , exercise, and run on a daily basis. My goals after MiraCosta are to transfer to UCLA, UC Santa Barbara or UC Berkeley and receive a bachelor's . After college, I wish to pursue a career in the military. I know I can be the best female officer anyone has seen in the United States Army.

What I love about MiraCosta College: The opportunities that are offered here!

Picture of Kyle

Second-Year Student
Hometown: Valley Center, California
Major: Business Administration and Accounting

Hello! My name is Kyle, and I am overjoyed to be part of the Student Ambassador program! Whether I am singing, trying to dance, or telling many puns, I am always attempting to entertain others and make them laugh. Coming from a small town, I aspire to make it to the “big city” by transferring to UCLA, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics, and either attending law school, starting my own business, or working within higher education. I am a member of the Accounting and Business Club, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Frequency vocal jazz group.  I look forward to helping others with the seemingly daunting college experience that in reality, isn’t so scary or daunting after all. I always love meeting new people and hearing about others’ experiences, so feel free to say hi if you ever see me on campus.

What I love about MiraCosta College: As a musician and performer, I was drawn to MiraCosta by its AMAZING music programs and facilities- complete with recording studios, state-of-the-art theater, and incredible faculty. If you are or want to become a thespian, a singer, a musician, or work behind-the-scenes, you should definitely check out MiraCosta!

Picture of Karis

Fourth-Year Student
Hometown: Oceanside
Studying: English

Aiya friend, call me Karis. I'm a first year student ambassador! I come from a large family and was homeschooled my whole life before MiraCosta. I have five brothers, two sisters, and a dog and cat as well. I began attending MiraCosta College Fall 2012 after my high school graduation, so I've been here for three years. I am majoring in English with a goal to transfer to Pomona College or UC Davis. I am working towards becoming a Creative Writing Professor at the university level. At MiraCosta, I've enjoyed being in the incredible Honors Scholar Program, where I have presented in several academic conferences at UC Irvine and Stanford, and have enjoyed the college experience by being involved in the Japanese Club, the Spanish Club as the Club Historian, and Phi Theta Kappa as the Vice President of Service. My passions are Taekwondo, research, writing poems and stories, traveling, loving people, and experiencing life. Hey, it's happening to me, it can happen to you. Namárië.

What I love about MiraCosta College- The team spirit we have here: nobody's left behind, and everyone is given the tools to succeed beyond their imaginations.

Picture of Marisela

Third-Year Student
Hometown: Oceanside
Major: Sociology

Hola! My name is Marisela. I was raised with the saying of "si se puede" and what that means is, “It can be done.” Growing up as the first generation college student, made it difficult for me to think that I would further my education because I did not have anyone to guide me to higher education. It was the fact that I never had guidance that motivated me give back. My career goal is to be a college counselor because I want to create opportunities and inform others that college is always an option regardless of their background. To reach my career goal I am going to receive my AA Degree in Sociology, transfer to a four year institution, earn a Bachelor's degree, and go on to obtain Master's Degree. My involvement in clubs such as M.E.Ch.A and Puente Diversity Network have taught me that as a student I have a lot of power in society.  It has also taught me to  always keep in mind where I come from because I am going to utilize my background to succeed in getting my degrees. Besides being involved in school I like writing poetry listening to music, and just hanging out with friends.

What I love about MiraCosta College: I enjoy the diversity because it gives others anopportunity to learnof the different cultures. I also like the staff because they are also diverse in culture and very helpful.

Picture of Sam

Second-Year Student
Hometown: Vista, CA
Studying: Film Production

Hi everyone my name is Sam and I am a TV ad producer. I have a tremendous amount of experience from infomercials to company presentations and more. I was originally born in Aguascalientes, Mexico and moved to Vista, California when I was eight years old. In high school I started a video marketing business known as “SAKA PRODUCTIONS” which ironically has changed my life. At first, I had difficulty accumulating clients, but months later my videos were selling like hot cakes; suddenly I had enough money to pay for my school activities and support my family with basic needs. As a result, I have learned to face new challenges in life, and my next challenge is to transfer to CSU Northridge or my dream school UCLA in order to become a Hollywood director or graphic designer. With either career, I want to represent my Mexican and American culture with pride. More importantly, with my finished and successful career I want to provide the means for my mother to stop working in the agriculture industry because she comes home with some incredible blisters on her hands. I see being part of the Student Ambassador family as an opportunity to improve my communication skills and spread the word about higher education.  I believe higher education is for everyone!
