First Year Student
Hometown: Valley Center, California
Helloooooo! My name is Kyle, and I am overjoyed to have been selected as a Student Ambassador this year! Whether I am singing, trying to dance, or telling many puns, I am always attempting to entertain others and make them laugh. Coming from a small town, I aspire to make it to the “big city” by transferring to UCLA, earning my Bachelor’s degree, and then attending law school to study entertainment law. My dream is to work within the entertainment industry in Los Angeles or New York City. Although it is only my first-year at MiraCosta and as an ambassador, I look forward to learning and becoming more involved at MiraCosta, for instance, participating in the renowned vocal jazz program. I can’t wait to help others with the seemingly daunting college experience that in reality isn’t so scary or daunting after all! I always love meeting new people and hearing about others’ experiences, so feel free to say hi to me, but only if you don’t mind hearing a cheesy joke or lame pun.
Favorite thing about MiraCosta: As a musician and performer, I was drawn to MiraCosta by its AMAZING music programs and facilities- complete with recording studios, state-of-the-art theater, and incredible faculty. If you are or want to become a thespian, a singer, a musician, or work behind-the-scenes, you should definitely check out MiraCosta!
Hometown: I am from Oceanside, CA.
Studying: I’m majoring in Communications and Business Management.
Years at MiraCosta: I am currently a first year student and feel very excited and honored to be a Student Ambassador and Peer Mentor.
Hi, my name is Charity. I am not the typical “high school student just graduating and entering college.” I was born and raised in a family of thirteen in Ogden, Utah. Right out of high school, I got married and started a family. My passion for motivating, leading, and inspiring led me to own a business in the health and fitness industry for ten years. Now that my children are older, I am pursuing my dream career as a coach and mentor. I have learned that it is never too late to pursue your passions and dreams. I will be only the second out of my parents’ thirteen children to graduate from college. I enjoy volleyball, as well as hanging out with my four boys and my best friend and greatest supporter, my husband.
What I love about MiraCosta College: The staff and faculty is friendly and supportive.
Hometown: Oaxaca, Mexico and Oceanside.
Studying: Criminal Justice
Year(s) at MiraCosta: This is my second year at MiraCosta College and first year as a Student Ambassador.
Hello, my name is Karina. My first three years of high school were in Mexico, and I transferred to Oceanside High School as a senior, where I graduated in 2013. My senior year was an obstacle because I was missing credits, but a counselor recommended that I do a program called AARC (Academic Acceleration and Recovery Center). I study vigorously to overcome struggles and am happy to be in college to work toward a career. I'm earning an Associate’s degree for transfer in Administration of Justice. I am working toward transferring to UC Berkeley or UC Irvine. I am considering attending the school of law for my Master's and PhD or working for a law enforcement agency. I hope that MiraCosta will help me develop leadership skills. During my free time, I like to do outside activities. I like hiking, kayaking, spending time with friends and family, and I enjoy helping others.
Favorite things about MiraCosta College: The support and services. The support the faculty offers is wonderful because they help you understand how the college process works. The services on campus are helpful for both personal and academic life. Simply knowing you are not alone is comforting!

Hello! My name is Ala. I was originally born in Long Beach, CA, but grew up in Ridgecrest, CA since the age of 6. I moved to Carlsbad right after graduating high school in 2012 to attend MiraCosta College. Throughout the last two years I’ve spent here, I’ve become very involved in the music, dance, and theatre departments. My educational goal is to obtain an AA in Theatre and Liberal Arts, then transfer to CSU Fullerton to get a BFA in Musical Theatre. Ultimately, my career goal is to perform on a Broadway stage. Performing is my passion, of course, but I also enjoy helping others and making a positive difference around me, so I am very excited to broaden my participation here at MiraCosta as a first-year Student Ambassador! If you have any questions, please feel free to say “Hi!” – I love meeting new people!

My family, friends, and dog (Louis) are very dear to me and I hope to achieve my goals with them by my side at every step. Educating myself, staying healthy/fit, and relaxing are daily hobbies for me. In addition to being part of the Student Ambassador program, I am also involved in the Honors program and Peer Mentor program. The best decision I have made in college was to get involved with a few of many programs/clubs they offer at MiraCosta College. I wish to make a difference in the world one person at a time.
My favorite thing about MiraCosta: MiraCosta gives me an opportunity to reach my goals by providing the tools necessary to do so. Never in my life would I have imagined that attending MiraCosta would be one of the best decisions of my life. I honestly thought I was UC-bound, having been accepted to UCLA out of high school. I am here to help students continue their education, whether it is to get their AA or to transfer to a 4-year university. If you see me on campus, don’t hesitate to stop me to ask questions or to show you around. To me, MiraCosta College is a place to start fresh and to know that it’s never too late to come back.

“Talofa”, is how we say hello in my native tongue, Samoan. My name is Sana and I come from the islands of American Samoa. Being brought up in the islands has taught me to appreciate what comes my way and to “go with the flow”. It is a part of my custom to help those who are less fortunate and people who are lost on their path. All my life, I have lived to help others, and thus plan on serving students with my time at MiraCosta College. I am now a second-year student and a proud graduate of Oceanside High School. Currently, I am undecided, but leaning toward majoring in sociology. I am working on my general education and plan on obtaining an AA degree and transferring to University of California San Diego or Humboldt University. I am 1 of 12 siblings- I’m not lying when I say that life has been a struggle for me and still is. However, knowing where I come from pushes me to strive for the best. Hola! My name is Nick, this is my third year at MiraCosta, and I am studying film with an emphasis in 3D animation. This year, I will be finishing my general education courses and begin earning a certificate in video animation. MiraCosta is my life; I am very involved on campus. In addition to being a Student Ambassador I am also the president of Black Student Union, a member of the Veterans' club, the Umoja program, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Honor's program. After I graduate from MiraCosta, I plan to transfer to either USC or UCLA. I joined the Student Ambassador Program because I want to help under privileged students realize their dreams of attaining higher education, especially students of color who might not believe they're capable of earning a degree. As a student of color coming from an impoverished background myself, I understand all too well the difficulties that these students face when it comes to getting into college. I want to be an example for these students as I help guide them on their journey to higher learning. By experiencing similar adversities, I hope to inspire others that they shouldn't let their current situation prevent them from fulfilling their potential and getting an education that will help upraise them.
