In-Person Counseling Services
45 Minute Appointments
Meet with a counselor to create an educational plan, which outlines the classes you need each semester to reach your goal.
- Photo I.D or inquire with a staff for alternative methods to verify identity
- A valid student I.D number
- Completion of the Matriculation process
- All official transcripts must have been received and on file with MiraCosta College
Please be advised when scheduling an appointment for a comprehensive education plan, all official transcripts must be submitted to Admissions and Records, either electronically, by mail, or submitted in person (in a sealed envelope). Transcripts may require an evaluation by Admissions and Records prior to scheduling an appointment for a comprehensive education plan. If you would like your transcript evaluated to determine what courses taken outside of MiraCosta are equivalent and meet certain requirements, please call the Counseling department or visit during express counseling hours to make the request.
Late Policy: Students arriving more than 10 minutes late for their appointment will be marked as a no-show. Please speak with a staff member for assistance with rescheduling the appointment.
No-show and Same Day Cancellation Policy: All cancellations and/or requests to reschedule an appointment must be made prior to the day on which the appointment occurs. Two consecutive no-shows and/or same day cancellations will result in a 2 week hold on scheduling further general counseling appointments.

PLEASE NOTE: Effective March 1st - In compliance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974), students requesting for a third party to attend their counseling appointment must complete a consent to release information. Please refer to a front office staff member for more information or to complete the form.
Is a great option for those who have quick questions. Express counseling offers up to 15 minutes of one-on-one time with a counselor. They are designed as a first-come, first-served, walk-in basis and are open to new, current, and returning students. PLEASE NOTE: Students will need to schedule a 45 minute appointment with a counselor to complete an education plan, long term academic planning, SAP appeal, or review of transcripts.

myEdPlan is MiraCosta’s online degree audit and student education planning tool for counselors and students. Using myEDPlan, counselors can create comprehensive semester-by-semester education plans, which students can access online 24/7, via SURF.
