INTRODUCTION TO LOCAL SEA LIFE
As our boat leaves the dock and motors out of
the harbor we stop to observe the local seabirds
and learn about how they feed.
Soon after leaving the harbor, we stop where sea
lions have hauled out on nearby buoys.
On our way to our study area several miles out
to sea, we make a dolphin/whale
loop. We never know what we will
find; it all depends on luck, the weather (rough seas make for poor observing
conditions), and the availability of food in the area at this time of year for
various types of cetaceans.

As we leave the dock, the crew discusses the
plans for the day.
The captain listens
to the radio for weather information and dolphin/whale sightings.
