I am a mother of four children, two boys, and two girls. My first oldest three children graduated from high school from ages fourteen to sixteen. I would be the first person in my immediate family to graduate from both high school and now college. I am aspiring to graduate with my DBA from Howard University. Education is number one in my home, and I want to continue to show that success to my children. I look forward to working with my fellow collegiate group and encouraging them to continue to have a grit-filled attitude toward their educational goals.

I was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii, and after spending most of my high school years studying in northern Italy and connecting with my family there, I moved to Carlsbad in the spring of 2021. I must admit, I’ve really enjoyed being so close to my happy place again: the beach! I am currently fluent in both English and Italian, but would love to expand that list in the future. Art and storytelling have been passions of mine since I was a kid, and I hope to one day publish my own novel. I am so excited to start my journey as a Writing Consultant, and meet new, wonderful people!

I am thrilled about the opportunity to meet and collaborate with new individuals as a new writing consultant! I have always found it fascinating to explore the diverse perspectives and ideas that people express through their writing. Outside of school, I love to play the Viola, spend time with friends, and cosplay at events!

Working as a writing consultant is appealing to me because of my writing journey. I started at entry-level classes such as English 25, 30, 50 and moved on to English 100, 201, and 202. As I completed each class, my writing confidence improved. I understand what it feels like to struggle as a writer. I’ve been there. I want to be there for writers like me who find the task of writing daunting and also for the student who needs someone to look over his or her paper.

Hello! I'm a local to Vista and Oceanside, but I'm not much of a beach person, so would likely won't see me out there. I'm hoping to bring positive vibes to the writing process and ease the stress of writing. Plus I get to meet a lot of wonderful, bright people. I'm here to support you!

I was born and raised in Oceanside with my familial roots coming from Oaxaca, Mexico. I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I am a first-generation college student who attended MiraCosta College and then transferred to Cal State San Marcos. Working with students from all backgrounds has proven to be immensely rewarding given the unique interactions I have with each individual. I value the act of students sharing their writing with me and allowing us to work together to negotiate writing choices. Outside of the Writing Center, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and watching sunsets.

As a new writing consultant I'm looking forward to meeting fellow students and getting to know my peers a little better. I am grateful to be involved with something that brings the community together and to interact with people in a time where isolation is so common. Outside of school I am a huge book and rpg nerd, I play guitar and sing (badly), and I have been working on my golf swing for the first time in my life.

One of the things I love about working in the Writing Center is seeing the transformative process students experience through writing feedback sessions. As writers, I think personal and community-based transformation is something we continue to experience, and I enjoy being part of that collaborative process. I am a first generation college student, a MiraCosta alumni, and am double majoring in English and Anthropology. I love writing and making art, libraries, listening to podcasts, and coffee. I am a published research and creative writing author and have presented at more than a dozen research conferences.

My favorite thing about working with students is helping them grow into the people they want to become. Whether it’s breaking down an aspect of the writing process, introducing a new perspective, or simply holding space, I do what I do to help students find their voice. When we can communicate, we can connect, and where we connect, there’s community. In my downtime, I’m a creative: writing, drawing, cooking, sewing.

What I enjoy most about working in the Writing Center is the poetry papers! Regular
papers are also fantastic (please come chat me up about those), but if you come in
with a WIP poetry paper... I will be overjoyed to talk to you about it.

I love my Writing Center work because it gives me the opportunity to work with students from any MCC class, and I get inspired by their brilliant ideas. When I’m not at work, I like to dance (ok- sometimes that happens at work too), watch movies or plays, write creative things, and read, particularly Native American lit.

Being a part of MiraCosta’s Writing Center team has been a wonderful experience. I feel honored to work with students from all walks of life who have the unified goal of enhancing their education. I became a writing consultant because I love to help people, and it’s been an amazing journey so far. It’s been really great getting to meet and work with so many wonderful people in my time here at the Writing Center. I’ve had the opportunity to work with the fantastic students and staff at MiraCosta for three years, and I can’t wait to work with you! I enjoy every stage of the writing process, but my favorite thing to do in the Writing Center is brainstorm with students. I think it’s so cool to see how people begin to develop their ideas and watch them form into a piece of writing. I especially love the back and forth aspect to Brainstorming where I get to have a conversation with a student on a variety of interesting topics, so come by and have a chat!

I have two cats adopted from a shelter, and my hobby is to train them to do some tricks. I speak Japanese and English.
