MiraCosta College requires students to use their username & password, and a second authentication factor (2FA), to access secured college portals & resources.
The college supports multiple Two Factor Authentication (2FA) methods, such as:
- Email: Receiving one-time-passcodes (OTP) to your registered PERSONAL email address is a preferred method.
- WARNING! If applicable, please DO NOT USE YOUR ISSUED MIRACOSTA EMAIL ADDRESS to receive your OTP.
- SMS or text message: Receiving one-time-passcodes (OTP) directly to your mobile devices via text messages is an alternate preferred method.

Select the respective tutorial to manage your Two Factor Authentication (2FA) methods.
IMPORTANT: After you have setup your email and phone (2FA)s, you MUST enable the MULTI-FACTOR
authentication method by selecting "Enable or Disable Multi-Factor Set Up" listed
below.
Note: Your registered personal email address - by default - is automatically set up to authenticate your access to MCC portals/resources.
When you login, a One Time Passcode (OTP) will be sent to your registered personal
email address.

Follow these steps to access your MCC portals/resources using a (2FA) authentication
method.
Go to the MiraCosta Portal Login prompt, and login using your MCC login credentials.
An OTP was sent to your registered personal email address, retrieve it and enter it in the One Time Passcode box.
Select Login to access your portal/recourses.
Your registered personal email address - by default - is automatically set up to authenticate
your access to MCC portals/resources. When you login, a One Time Passcode (OTP) will
be sent to your registered personal email address.
WARNING! If applicable, please DO NOT USE YOUR ISSUED MIRACOSTA EMAIL ADDRESS to receive your OTP.Follow these steps to confirm your registered email address is
set up as (2FA) authentication factor.
Access the MiraCosta Portal Login prompt, and login using your MCC login credentials.
Select Manage Your Account Settings.
Select Registered Email Address.
Verify your registered personal email address.
If you don't see your personal email registered, access your SURF account to add your personal email address or select Add my email and follow its steps or contact the Student Help Desk for assistance.
When you login, a One Time Passcode (OTP) will be sent to your registered personal
email address.

Follow these steps to add your mobile phone number as (2FA) authentication factor.
Access the MiraCosta Portal Login prompt, and login using your MCC login credentials.
Select Manage Your Account Settings.
To add a Mobile Phone Number:
- Select Registered Phones
- Select Add new phone
- Add your mobile phone number
- Select Continue
Enter the OTP that you received.
You have successfully added a mobile phone number as a (2FA) factor.
After you have setup your registered personal email address and phone number authenticators,
follow these steps to Enable or Disable the Multi-Factors. WARNING! If applicable, please DO NOT USE YOUR ISSUED MIRACOSTA EMAIL ADDRESS to receive your OTP.
Access the MiraCosta Portal Login prompt, and login using your MCC login credentials.
Select Manage Your Account Settings.
Select Enable/Disable Multi-Factor to expand, then select Enable Multi-Factor for my account.
When the pop-up window displays, select OK to enable Multi-Factor authentication.
Your account is now enabled with a Multi-Factor Authentication method.
Q. My email doesn't work, how I do get an OTP?
A. The alternative is to select Option 1: Send OTP as SMS.
Q. My SMS/Text doesn't work, how I do get an OTP?
A. The alternative is to select Option 2: Send OTP in email.
Q. My email and SMS/Text doesn't work, how I do get an OTP?
A. The alternative is to select Option 3: Contact Student Help Desk to receive an OTP.
