Phi Theta Kappa

This year marks 100 years of excellence for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society! Enrolled students who have completed a minimum of 12 units of transferrable courses at MiraCosta with a 3.5 GPA are eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa. As you head into the semester and consider ways to enrich your community college experience, Phi Theta Kappa is an important organization to bear in mind.

Members enjoy the opportunity to volunteer in the community, collaborate on college project initiatives, and nurture personal connections by participating in activities and social gatherings. Members can hone their leadership skills and develop other soft skills that benefit them in their careers. Additionally, more than $37 million in transfer scholarship opportunities are available to Phi Theta Kappa members.

From listening to members and from our own experiences, we know being a part of Phi Theta Kappa enhances the community college experience.  Here’s what students had to say when asked about their personal experience with Phi Theta Kappa and the value of membership:

“Going into a community college, I did not feel like I could make friendships. Through Phi Theta Kappa, I have joined a community of high-achieving scholars who motivate each other. For me personally, I didn’t have confidence in myself; but my advisors and fellow members saw potential in me and encouraged me to take more leadership roles in the community.”

When I joined, not only did I benefit from scholarship opportunities, but I was able to connect with and form lasting relationships with people that were just like me! It gives you a sense of belonging."

“One of the most important lessons I learned through Phi Theta Kappa is how important networking is. Networking is not just being friendly; it’s about starting, building and maintaining a relationship.”
