Charge
The SCPAC is a standing committee that serves in an advisory role to promote equity and continuous improvement in the MiraCosta College processes of implementing the student code of conduct and police matters. The advisory committee operates through the president’s alliance on diversity, equity and inclusion (PADEI) and makes recommendations to the superintendent/president and executive management team.
The committee’s purpose is to promote effective communication, collaboration, and
understanding between constituent groups members, community members, and areas of
the college charged with keeping the campus a welcoming, safe and productive learning
environment for all members. The committee will assist in creating a racially just
campus climate where individuals and their diverse cultures and identities are welcomed,
nurtured, and validated. The
committee will review pertinent data and provide feedback for improving the quality
and level of service provided to the campus community.
The committee is charged with the following:
- Review arrest, citation, and complaints trends and statistics over regular intervals
to determine
the effectiveness of community policing programs. Highlight issues that may need to be
addressed. - Review disaggregated student conduct data.
- Review and make recommendations for consideration regarding police department and
student conduct policies, procedures, and training. - Review and make recommendations regarding Board Policies and Administrative Procedures
related to campus policing, safety and security and student conduct processes - Identify ways to enhance positive interactions between the College Police and its constituents.
- Develop ways to increase student, faculty, and staff input in and understanding of
college
police and student conduct functions and initiatives. - Provide advice on other police or student conduct related issues brought to it by
the
superintendent/president or vice presidents. - Provide recommendations to the superintendent/president or the vice presidents about
mechanisms to enhance these areas. - Provide presentations to college constituent groups, other community groups, and Governing
Board
periodically as needed or requested.
Meeting Times
The committee meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 3pm-4pm during the academic year, September - May.
