What is Proctorio?
Proctorio is a remote proctoring service that works within your web browser to guarantee test security and academic integrity.
How does Proctorio Work?
Proctorio uses the Google Chrome browser and the Proctorio extension to monitor you during your exam. Depending on the exam security settings enabled by your instructor, Proctorio can monitor movement, sound, additional browsers, ect. to ensure students are abiding by the required exam settings.
How do I get started?
If you do not have the Chrome browser, you will need to download and install Chrome. You must use a computer or laptop (Windows or Mac) with a working webcam and microphone. Currently, Proctorio does not work with mobile devices. You will also need to install the Proctorio extension for Chrome.
What do I need for Proctorio?
- A webcam
- A picture ID (Student ID works)
- Solid internet connection
- Google Chrome and Proctorio Extension

Can I receive my accommodations when using Proctorio?
If you’re authorized to receive extended time on your quizzes or exams, you are responsible for notifying your instructor as soon as possible prior to the quiz/exam date to request the extended time that you’ve been authorized on your Service Authorization form. The instructor will adjust your time settings within Canvas, or the test platform you’ll be using with Proctorio, to allow for the extended time.
If you’re authorized for and seek to utilize breaks during your Proctorio session, you may contact your instructor to advise them what the break is for, if you’re comfortable doing so. Some types of breaks may require that you remaining within view of the camera, whereas restroom breaks do not. Contact email@example.com if you have any questions or concerns regarding this accommodation.
If your instructor will be using Proctorio for quizzes/exams and you are planning to use specialized software or hardware during testing, such as Read and Write Gold, Kurzweil or voice recognition software, please contact the DSPS Access Specialist, Aaron Holmes at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
