Black Student Success Week
April 20–24
Black Student Success Week is a statewide initiative across the California Community College system dedicated to advancing the academic success, belonging, and overall experiences of Black students.
Throughout the week, colleges across the state engage in conversations, professional learning, and student-centered programming that highlight strategies, research, and practices that support Black student success.
This year’s theme, “Revolution: (Re)Defining Black Student Success,” encourages institutions to reexamine traditional narratives of achievement and to explore new ways of strengthening opportunity, belonging, and equity for Black students in higher education.
Black Student Success Week at MiraCosta College
At MiraCosta College, Black Student Success Week will include workshops and conversations that support both professional learning for faculty and staff and student-centered engagement opportunities. These events provide space for our campus community to share knowledge, reflect on institutional practices, and explore strategies that strengthen outcomes for Black students.
Programming throughout the week will highlight approaches that promote belonging, community, academic achievement, and holistic student support.
Statewide Programming
The California Community College system will host several virtual events throughout the week that are open to faculty, staff, administrators, and students across the state.
#TheBlackHour (12:00–1:00 PM)
Daily webinars highlighting research, promising practices, and institutional strategies
that advance Black student success across community colleges.
#TheAfterParty (1:00–2:00 PM)
Informal discussion spaces that allow participants to reflect on the webinar topics
and engage in deeper conversation with colleagues across the state.
#TheStudentHour (6:00–7:00 PM)
A student-centered space where Black students share their experiences, perspectives,
and recommendations for strengthening college environments.
#TheBlackOut Advocacy Day (Thursday)
A statewide advocacy event focused on advancing policies and practices that support
Black student success and equity in higher education.
