Matt
Hi everyone, my name is Matt, and I am currently a molecular and cell biology major at UCSD. I was a SI Leader for 5 semesters for biology (Bio 110, Bio 202 and Bio 204). As an SI Leader, I loved the fact that I had the opportunity to be part of students’ success in their academic careers! I am now a SIL mentor, and I look forward to guiding SI Leaders in helping students succeed in their courses.
Connor
Hi, my name is Connor and I am a SI Mentor for the science courses. I was a SI Leader for 3 semesters for Biology and Organic Chemistry and have been a Mentor since Spring 2021. As an SIL I loved helping students further their knowledge and understanding in a course, and being a Mentor is just as rewarding!
Alessa
Hello I’m Alessa! I started as an Accounting SIL during Fall 2018 and now I’m continuing as a Mentor while studying Management Information Systems at CSUSM. Being involved in the SI program has been a rewarding experience and helped shape me into the person I am today.
Ash
Hello there! My name is Ashleigh and I started my SI journey as an SI Leader for Bio 202 way back in 2007 at MiraCosta and again for Math 51 at CSUSM in 2009. More recently, I became an SI Mentor for Math and Accounting/Econ and now, I am an SI Learning Coach. The SI community helped me become stronger academically and in leadership as well. It is a lasting experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything and HIGHLY encourage others to pursue. You won’t regret it!
Jaycee
Hey everyone! My name is Jaycee. I was an SI leader for BIO 204. In 2021 I transitioned into being a SI Mentor for Biology. I transferred to UCSD in 2020 to pursue a Human Biology major. As a student, SI was extremely helpful and fun! Since the SI leaders are former students of that teacher and that course, they could offer valuable insight into how they learned the material and succeeded in the course. I made some really great friendships with my peers and the SI leader and continued to do so in the online format. SI is designed to help you succeed so you should take full advantage of that. It is worth it!
Mike
Hi! My name is Mike, and I joined the SI team after graduating from San Jose State in 2019. Since then, I have been working as an SIL supporting MiraCosta’s English 100 students and more recently as a Learning Coach. In my time as an SIL, I have had the opportunity to work with many amazing students and watch them grow as writers, so if you're debating whether or not to attend an SI Session or deciding if you should apply to be an SIL, I highly recommend that you do! Either way, it’s sure to be a wonderfully fun and rewarding experience.
