The Tutoring Program
The MiraCosta College tutoring program provides academic assistance free of charge if you are enrolled in either day or evening credit classes. Help is available in non-STEM courses.
Tutoring is available Monday through Sunday in Zoom and on a limited basis on the Oceanside Campus. Tutors are available by appointment for individual (one-to-one) help and on a drop-in basis (visit our home page to view the current drop-in schedule). Appointment sessions usually last 50 minutes and are arranged for the student and tutor at a mutually convenient time. Additional sessions may be requested as needed.
To make a tutoring appointment, look for the “Make a Tutoring Appointment” link or contact the tutoring center at the Oceanside campus. Appointments for tutoring are generally made at least 24 hours ahead of when you want to be seen. You can expect to see a tutor in a day or two. Additional appointments for help in the same course may be made after your most recent session is concluded but may not be scheduled for at least 48 hours. We make one appointment at a time and do not make standing appointments. Students may schedule up to two appointments per week per course.
To see a drop-in tutor, come by at the posted times when tutors are on duty. No appointment is needed; drop-in tutoring is helpful if you have a quick question or need immediate assistance.
At the Community Learning Center we offer free tutoring for GED, English, ESL, Citizenship, Adult High School Diploma, study and test taking skills. Help is available on a drop-in or appointment basis.
No Show and Cancellation Policy
We do not accept cancellations made via e-mail
You must appear for your appointment within the first 15 minutes or cancel any time prior to 8am the day of your appointment.
To cancel an appointment, you may log into the "Make an Appointment" link, or you can call and leave a voice mail message.
You are a “no show” if you fail to appear for an appointment within the first 15 minutes and/or you have not cancelled before 8am. You will be denied tutoring appointments for 10 school days if you have two “no shows.” Subsequent "no shows" may result in ineligibility for tutoring for the remainder of the semester. To avoid this, please cancel appointments you decide not to keep. Students who cancel their appointments three consecutive times will be considered as having one “no show.”

You can leave a voice mail message 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How to prepare for a tutoring session
Tutoring is a team effort: you and your tutor work together to help you do well in your courses. Be sure to bring your class notes, successfully, current class assignment, and a list of particular questions you may have. Make sure that before you see a tutor that you have completed or attempted your assignments and have made every effort to overcome your learning difficulties on your own. If you cannot seem to do so, then we will be glad to help you.
If you want to become a tutor
As a successful MiraCosta student, you may want to help your peers by becoming a tutor. As a paid hourly position, tutoring allows you to help others, offers a flexible work schedule, provides convenient employment on campus, and reinforces your own learning. Qualifications include earning a grade of B or A in the course(s) you wish to tutor, recommendation by your instructor(s), and student status. If selected, you will be provided with training in how to tutor.
If you are interested in applying for a tutoring position for NON-STEM courses, complete an application at the tutoring center prior to May 13. If we are interested in considering you for an opening, we will call you to schedule an interview.
