encuentrosleadership.org
Encuentros Leadership was organized in 2003 to address the alarmingly high school drop-out rates of Latino males. Encuentros Leadership was soon after formed to address the critical educational, social and economic issues impacting the quality of education and life opportunities for Latino boys within our communities. As a result of collaborative efforts with Encuentros and its partners, males of Latino descent will become contributing and participating citizens of this nation through improved educational opportunities, personal commitment, and community involvement. In 2015, Encuentros was recognized by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics as a “bright spot” in Hispanic education.
Contact: Lisa Montes, Chair, 760.757.2121 x6396, lmontes@miracosta.edu - The Hispanic Network (HN)
This community network of Latino business people and social service agencies share information on programs that provide local community members with access to programs related to ESL, education, health, legal issues, employment, youth services, and academic and leadership development, among others. HN collaborates with the SDUHSD Adult School, parent and youth organizations, city councils, law enforcement agencies, businesses, and other agencies to support a strong, viable, Latino community. Members make referrals to the adult ESL and adult high school programs. In addition, HN invites the community to quarterly community networking meetings and to a biannual Hispanic Network Meeting for Hispanic community leaders; these gatherings serve as forums for community visibility, outreach, and information sharing. HN also conducts community risk assessments that provide data to the MiraCosta College Adult High School. - Las Valientes
www.lasvalientes.org
Over the past 13 years, Las Valientes has helped people from different age groups and ethnic cultures. From teens wanting to leave abusive relationships, to grandmothers finally deciding to leave their abusive partners of many years, we have helped people from different countries, cultures, ethnicities and religions. Las Valientes is a project of God’s Heart Ministry, founded by Ana Serrano as a way to provide assistance and support to Hispanic women in San Diego County. We assist women in the Latino community to break free of the chains of violence that bind them.
