CTE High School Courses

High school students earn college credit for CTE high school courses and final assessments that have been pre-approved by MiraCosta College faculty. The credit earned may be applied towards prerequisite requirements, major prep, MiraCosta certificates or degrees, and/or transfer to another college. It is up to each college or university to determine if they accept the credit and how it will be applied.

Learn More about CTE High School Courses

  • Best for students continuing in the same career education pathway at MiraCosta College.
  • Credits may apply to MiraCosta certificates, degrees, or fulfill prerequisites.
  • Each college determines if Credit by Exam will transfer and how it will be applied. In Fall 2024, the UC shared at a High School Counselor conference that they will not accept any credit earned via High School articulation, but they will consider Credit by Exam on a student transcript. MiraCosta uses the Credit by Exam notation.
  • No cost to students.
  • Students enrolled in a high school CTE course that has an articulation agreement with a MiraCosta College course.
  • Students must earn an A or B in the course and on a final assessment, receive a recommendation for credit from course instructor, and submit a Petition for Credit during the term the student is enrolled.
  • The students’ high school transcript will reflect the high school course name and final course grade; while the MiraCosta transcript will reflect the college course name and final assessment grade with the notation of "Credit by Exam.” For example, a student who earns an A in their high school course and a B on their final assessment will have a B on the MiraCosta College transcript.
  • MiraCosta faculty will determine the grade and credit recommendation for courses articulated with our Media Arts Technologies and Music Technology articulated courses.
  • College credit is applied to the students' MiraCosta College transcripts about one month after finishing the high school course.
  • Grades of C,D, and F are not eligible for credit and will not appear on a student's MiraCosta College transcript; though they will be on the high school transcript.
