Learn More about Concurrent Enrollment

Concurrent enrollment offers high school students the chance to take FREE college courses (in-person, online, or hybrid). Students can earn college credit, explore academic disciplines, get a head start on building their college transcript, and save money.

  • Students can enroll up to a maximum of 11 units per fall and spring term, and 8 units per summer session.
  • Students have a $2 Student Representation Fee they can opt out of in SURF.
  • Students are responsible for purchasing books and materials required for their course(s). Learn about more about Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) and Low Textbook Cost (LTC) Classes.
  • Students wishing to receive high school credit for their college courses are encouraged to meet with their high school counselor.
  • High school students who have finished 8th grade (or are 15 years old) can take classes with permission from their high school and a parent/guardian.
  • If you're 18 years or older, permission from a parent/guardian is not required.
  • Recommendations from private high school principals will only be accepted if the school has filed a Private School Affidavit with the California Department of Education.
  • If the private school isn’t listed as active on the California Department of Education website, the student will need to send a copy of their Private School Affidavit for the current school year to dualenroll@miracosta.edu.
  • The student only has to submit one affidavit for the current school year when turning in their concurrent form.
  • Home-schooled students need to show proof that they are registered as a private school by providing a Private School Affidavit for the current school year OR they can get approval from the public high school they would normally attend.
  • The local high school must agree that home-schooling counts as valid school attendance and decide if the student has done enough coursework to be ready for college classes.
  • Email your Private School Affidavit to dualenroll@miracosta.edu. You only need to submit one affidavit for the current school year when you turn in your concurrent form.

Application & Enrollment Steps

The application is a 2-step process:

Important Tip: Use your personal email to apply, not your high school email.

It takes 2-3 business days for your application to be processed. You'll then get a welcome email with your SURF ID and a link to activate your SURF account.

If you don't get a welcome email after 3 business days, email dualenroll@miracosta.edu for help.

Returning Students: If you haven't taken classes for 2 or more semesters in a row (not counting summer), you need to apply again.

Transcripts

  • Official transcript requests are made online at miracosta.edu/transcripts. The first two official transcripts ever requested are free; thereafter, it is $7 per request.
  • Students can access their unofficial transcript in SURF.
