Many online students start out knowing they can improve in some or all of those areas, and work hard to do so!
MiraCosta offers five types (or “modalities”) of classes, which are distinguished by the way that the classes meet. All types of classes include interaction with the professor and regular deadlines for completing class work.
- In-person: regularly scheduled meetings on campus
- Online: completely online with no scheduled meetings.
- Scheduled online: regularly scheduled Zoom meetings
- Hybrid: in-person class meetings combined with online or scheduled online learning
- HyFlex: every class meeting can be attended in person or through Zoom.
- Connect with an academic counselor online or in person to explore possibilities and interests.
- If you have not yet applied, submit your application and apply for financial aid.
- Complete your MiraCosta orientation (you can do this online).
- Explore programs and majors related to your transfer or career goals.
- Register for classes, and pay your fees.
- Update your preferred email, name, and other information in SURF.
- Get access to your course materials - many classes provide them for free in Canvas; others may require you to purchase course materials.
- Sign up for a Student Online Academic Readiness workshop to help you SOAR online!
Canvas is a course management system that you will use to access online MiraCosta courses (there’s an app, too).
