Our SURF enrollment system always enforces all prerequisites. If you have taken the prerequisite at a school other than MiraCosta College you can ask for your prerequisite to be cleared by submitting our Prerequisite/Priority Registration form and attaching the transcripts to the form (unofficial transcripts are fine). Clearing your prerequisite takes up to 5 business days so please plan ahead!
- Once the instructor opens the Canvas class.
- Once a student enrolls in a class, the process to assign a course in Canvas to a student runs every 2 hours between 7:23am to 7:23pm Monday to Saturday. The integration does not run on Sundays. If you confirm it has been longer than 2 hours, the student can contact the Student Help Desk for assistance.
Students can pay for a parking pass on SURF or in-person at the Cashier's office at the Oceanside, San Elijo, and Community Learning Center Campus. Parking permits can be picked up at the Cahier's office at the Oceanside, San Elijo, and Community Learning Center Campus or at the campus police office at the Oceanside Campus. Instructor Consent means a permission code is required to enroll in the course. A permission code is required to add a course once it is filled or if the class has started. Students can email the professor to request a permission code. View a tutorial on how to use a permission number.
You are allowed to take most classes only once, however, there are some instances where you can repeat a course:
- If you earn a grade of F, D, or NP you are allowed to repeat the course.
- The Maximum number of times (including W grades) you may take a course is 3.
- Once you earn a C or better in the course you are not permitted to take it again.
- If the course is designated as repeatable you may be able to take the course again.
Want to Add a Class That’s Full (Closed)?
If a class is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist (if available and you meet the prerequisites). The last day to join a waitlist is
Saturday before classes start.
If a spot opens, students are auto-enrolled once a day through the start of the class. Check your email daily for updates and payment instructions.
Important Reminder
Being on the waitlist does not mean you’re officially enrolled. You must be fully
enrolled and have paid to be eligible for financial aid or enrollment verification.
Once the Class Starts
You can still try to join by crashing the course:
- In-person: Attend the first class and let the instructor know you’re on the waitlist or hoping to add. If space is available, they may give you a permission number to enroll in SURF.
- Online: Email the instructor before the class starts to ask if there is space and request a permission number.
After you receive a permission number, use it in SURF to enroll and pay your fees right away.
