Overview of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD)
Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) are issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and serve as proof that an individual is authorized to work in the United States for a specific period. These documents are essential for non-citizens who need to demonstrate their eligibility to work.
Why are EADs Required?
- Verification of Work Authorization
Employers must verify that all employees, regardless of citizenship or national origin, are authorized to work in the U.S. This is done through the completion of Form I-9. - Compliance with Federal Law
Ensuring that employees have valid EADs helps employers comply with federal employment laws and avoid penalties.
