What is the deadline for graduates to RSVP to participate in the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement
The last day to RSVP is Tuesday, May 4 at 11:59 p.m. Due to time restrictions for planning a virtual ceremony, we will not be accepting any late submissions past this deadline. Please submit early, Spartans!
What is a [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony?
A virtual ceremony has many of the same components of a traditional in-person ceremony, however students and their guests will celebrate online. During the ceremony, the student’s name will be announced individually with a slide, which can be personalized with a photo and quote by the graduate.
Am I required to participate in the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony?
No, you’re not required to participate in the virtual ceremony – but we encourage you to celebrate your achievements! Your degree will still be mailed to you, if eligible, regardless if you participate.
I want to graduate in-person. If I am eligible to participate in the 2021 [Virtual]
Commencement Ceremony, can I instead wait to participate in the 2022 Commencement
No, only Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 candidates will be invited to participate in the 2022 Commencement Ceremony.
If I don’t RSVP, am I included in the 2021[Virtual] Commencement Ceremony?
No, you must RSVP before the deadline to be included in the commencement program and ceremony. The last day to RSVP is Tuesday, May 4 at 11:59 p.m.
If I RSVP but don’t send in a slide, will my name be read?
Yes, your name will still be included in the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony. Adding a photo/personal message or quote is optional and encouraged!
How do I personalize my 2021 [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony slide? How long can my
personal message be?
Graduates can personalize their slide with a photo/celebratory selfie (optional), highlighting organizations they are a member of (ex: ASG, UMOJA, PTK, etc.), and adding a short message or quote (optional). Messages or quotes are limited to 150 characters total.

How will my degree or certificate information be listed on my commencement slide?
The highest degree you are eligible for will be listed on your slide. For example: High School Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor Degree.
How can graduates access the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony?
Links will be provided to students via email to share, as well as posted to our website the week prior to the ceremony. Check the Commencement Homepage for the most up-to-date information. The virtual ceremony will be held on Facebook Live and YouTube Live; no additional app download is required.
How do I invite my friends and family to join the virtual graduation? Is there a limit?
Since we are hosting a virtual graduation, our capacity is unlimited! We encourage you to share information about the ceremony with your family.
Will graduate names be announced in alphabetical order?
The names are first sorted by degree type (Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree, High School Diploma), then listed alphabetically by last name. Only students who RSVP’d on-time will have their name included in the ceremony.

Where do I purchase my cap & gown?
You can purchase your cap & gown here. The last day to order your cap & gown online is Sunday, May 2, 2021. All purchases will be shipped, there will not be a pick-up option available.
Do I need to purchase a cap and gown for the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony
or for the Drive of Champions?
No, but students are encouraged to submit pictures in graduation regalia. Graduates can wear caps & gowns in any color for this [Virtual] Commencement Ceremony. Students are welcome to wear previous commencement regalia (ex: a highschool graduation gown) or purchase a set from a different vendor (ex: Amazon).
How do I receive honors cords? Are my honors included in the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement
In the commencement program, students with a 4.0 GPA, President’s Permanent Honor Roll recipients, and those on the President’s List are recognized for their distinguished awards. For specific questions regarding honors related to Phi Theta Kappa or the Honors Scholar Program, please contact your program directly.
How and when will I receive my degree?
Your degree will be mailed to the address on your Graduation Petition two months after the end of the semester. Should you need to update your mailing address, please email Evaluations@miracosta.edu
How do I get my diploma cover?
Diploma covers will be mailed to all students who RSVP to the 2021 [Virtual] Commencement by May 4th.
