Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Join us for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW) at MiraCosta College to learn more about the issues and resources that address basic needs insecurity. The events happening November 2nd - 21st have been organized by the CARE (Campus Assessment, Resources, & Education) Team in collaboration with many MiraCosta on-campus programs and community organizations to focus on advocacy, education, resources, and service.
HHAW MiraCosta Kickoff events will happen Monday, November 2nd - November 13th, 2026 with the nationally-recognized Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week occurring during November 15th - November 21st.
We highly encourage students, staff, and faculty to RSVP.

Join us for the CARE Free Food & Resource Market to receive FREE produce and dry goods from our partners, Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank. To access this service, students need their Spartan Pass (student ID card) or SURF ID number.

Join us for a 47-minute documentary that follows 3 older adults navigating homelessness and highlights systemic issues like housing shortages and financial insecurity. Resources for older adults and unhoused individuals will be available afterwards. Students interested in social and behavioral careers encouraged to connect with community partners. Garden in a Bucket: Grow Your Own Herbs and Veggies
Location: San Elijo Campus, SAN 900 Student Center

Come learn about how to grow your own food garden and how to take control of what’s on your plate. Participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing and take home their own seeds and starter plants.

Financial Wellness Workshop: How to Rebuild After a Financial Crisis

Come grab lunch and learn about how to budget, repay debt, rebuild credit, establish emergency savings, and replenish retirement savings after a financial crisis. HHAW Day of Service: With the Service Learning & Volunteer Center
Location: Solutions For Change - 722 W. California Ave., Vista, CA 92083
Time: 9:30am - 12:00pm
Join the Service Learning and Volunteer Center at Solutions For Change for the Hunger & Homelessness day of service. Volunteers will help clean, organize and prepare the campus for the holidays (sweeping, weeding, trash pick up, and general organization). Sign up using the RSVP link for one of fifteen volunteer spots. CARE will be providing a 1-day bus pass or Uber voucher for students who need transportation.
Information about opportunity drawing eligibility
Student attendees will be entered in multiple opportunity drawings for gift cards supporting basic needs and receive free swag and food when they attend events. Check out individual flyers here (coming soon) to see what events offer food, opportunity drawings and/or free swag.
Students who attend three or more "opportunity drawing eligible" events will be entered into a grand opportunity drawing for multiple $100 gift cards of their choice or two Adult Regional monthly bus passes (a $170 value).
